Hakim 8mm?

Anyone here shot a Hakim? How does it perform against, say Yugo M59 SKS? I know the 8mm round is more powerful, but how's the rifle's accuracy, recoil, and ect...

Comparing a SKS to a Hakim is like comparing a Mini14 to a Garand.

The Hakim is a kick butt big gun. It's acuracy is better than the SKS and the 8mm is a pretty potent round.

Only problem, a Hakim is longer, bigger and heavier than the SKS. It is a full battle rifle as the SKS can be considered a "carbine" in comparison.

The Hakim has almost no recoil - their muzzle brake is ridiculously effective, and reduces recoil to just slightly more than an AR.

I own a Hakim in 8mm, it's father the Swedish AG-42b in 6.5mm and the Rashid in 7.62x39. The Hakim is a fine weapon, a bit heavy but very accurate and reliable. It is feed via 5 round 8mm stripper clips. The mag is removable but only for cleaning or unloading. All the use the direct gas system used by the AR-15.

I had one about 18 years ago and always enjoyed shooting it. Don't recall it having much recoil. Me and my buddy use to blast away with those back during the old days of Lytle Creek. If you can get one at a good price, you should jump on it. Don't see them much anymore, although I did just see one at On-Target in Laguna Niguel for about $500.

Hakims are awesome

Everyone needs one. As already said, they're accurate, with low felt recoil thanks to the integral muzzle brake and weight, and cheap to shoot thanks to plentiful 8mm surplus ammo.

Just make sure to check the bore before you buy one. When they were issued corrosive ammo was the norm (still is) and Egyptian troops were less than fastidious about cleaning the barrels.

Mine has a nice shiny bore. It's so accurate that I used it in a 3 gun match with the iron sights. 8mm leaves no doubt you hit steel

Where did you find them? I have been trolling the local shows in So. Cal. for the last few years, and all I have found are $750 RC K98 mausers, $250 M91/30, jerky, milsurp junk and woman's jewelry.

Look to the FN-49's also for a hard hitting 8mm.

My opinion is the FN-49 is a better gun. It's the granddaddy of the FN FAL you know.

I picked up a FN-49 and the barrel was "okay". Don't get me wrong, does 1-2 MOA with iron sights at 100. But being a "freak" I went out and bought 3 new barrels for $35 each. Plan to shoot that baby till I'm grey.

If you do get a FN-49, find a muzzle brake. Really really helps. Real ones will run you about $100, aftermarket repros will run you about $35.

I agree, the FN-49 is head and shoulders better than the Hakim.

I don't like the Hakim specifically because it poos where it eats, like an AR-15. I don't dig the gas tube system blowing crud back into the receiver.


I almost got a Hakim but chose a FAL instead, I'm glad I did.

If I could find a .308 FN-49 that would be even better!

The Hakim does not poo where it eats. It is an OPEN direct impingement gas system, which means it blows the dirty gas into your hair and into your forehead.

I had one- I have a bigger head and it blasted my hair into new and interesting shapes every time I went shooting. I sold it for other things, like another Garand and a 1903.

The FN49 kicks harder with no brake, but it's much mre pleasant to shoot as it does not blow crap all over you, or all over your friends (brake).
