Mosin Sight Tools - Which One?

Decided to finally get a Mosin sight-moving tool instead of continuing with the hammer/punch method of adjusting front sights.

I've found two (similar) versions of this critter, one on Amazon and one on eBay. One has two adjustment screws, the other one. Both are similar, blocks of aluminum with a hold for the barrel.

In terms of ease of use, any intel on which one might be better, based on actual experience? Not a big issue - both probably work - but thought I would find out if anyone in this well informed assemblage has any first-hand observations or recommendations.

I don't know anything about those, but I use these and they work fine:

Buymilsurp.com - Mosin Nagant Parts & Accessories SKS Rifle Parts & Accessories Ammunition Stripper and Loading Clips Booklets and Manuals TAPCO Parts & Accessories Surplus Firearms Virtual Museum Scopes Mounts & Optics Ordnance, Grenades & Rockets Pistol Parts & Accessories Rifle Parts & Accessories Misc. Accessories PPSH 41 & PPS 43 PARTS RECOIL BUFFERS DISCOUNT BINS MISC GUN SPRINGS HI CAP MAGAZINES - IN STOCK!! Daisy VL Ammo for Sale HOLSTERS

The only issue I had was bending one of the screws so I cut it off and found a stainless steel replacement at Home Depot.

I have the heavy duty versions.

Rifle is fine Komrades! If need move sight, find rock or smack against wall. Is Mosin!

What ever you decide on, lube the screw threads, and grease the end of the screw.

          Thanks, all.

Kouye, those tools at BuyMilsurp look to be the same as the Amazon offering, though the "open" side of the tool has the aluminum shoulder angled off and reduced - not sure the value or point of that. Otherwise they look the same, and both are called "Range Buddy" in the listings.

Trap, I'll definitely lubricate and pad the whole process to minimize work and any cosmetic marring. Also, as I've always done with the old hammer/punch method, I put Kroil on the dovetail area the night before, let it soak well before doing anything. Seems to make things much smoother and easier.

So, I guess I'm still looking for anyone with direct experience with the eBay tool. Its design is slightly different, and it's $10 less (yeah, peanuts, but pinching kopeks is part of the joy of inexpensive Mosin fun).

Forgot to add that, only one cup of coffee when I posted.
Got a link for the Ebay auction?

              Trap, here's the eBay link:

The only question I have about this design is the screws on *both* sides of the sight.

Ah - hold the presses, no, now I get it - since this tool has a bracket making it possible to only mount the tool on the barrel one way, there need to be screws on both sides so you can move the sight either way. With the other tool, to reverse the pushing direction you just take off the tool and place around the barrel the other way.

Yep, you got it figured out. One of the better ones I've seen too.

The ones at Mark Kubes (Buymilsurp) carries are Elby (elby.yolasite.com)

These are quality tools and Bruce is a good guy. He made my jigs for working sights over years back and they've lasted with no complaint.

I also use his "gunsmith" model sight mover. It is excellent.

I did buy a steel eBay version for an M44. Guess what? That steel one got its threads boogered up really fast.

                  Stick with Elby.

                  Regards,

I have that very tool and it works as advertised. I wouldn't be without it.
