Enfields in use today - I do mean today!

I cropped and resized these from some pics from the shooting scene in India today. Looks like No4 rifles.

I wonder if their ammo goes "click...bang".

I'm not sure what to think...

Still in use throughout the world including Canada where they are carried by the Canadian Rangers which are Militia patrolling sub-artic Canada. India uses the #4 for grenade launching and by police formations. The #1 and 2A are also in use.

I would of thought they wouldn't fair so well, or for so long, in such a humid climate.

The India and Pakistan armies are pretty professional organizations both having originated under the Brits prior to independence and the partition. They have maintained their training, traditions, and professionalism. The only Lee Enfields that have been used and maintained poorly that I've seen have came out of Turkey. A lot of the #1s out of India have been very heavily used but even when the bores are worn they are usually pit free. A fair amount of India is dry - it is a really big place and covers several climate ranges.

I hope they have to use that POF cr*p ammo that everyone is unloding for very low prices. They can have fun with the click, bang problems like we do/did before we got wise, unloaded it and now are at pains to avoid it.

Thanks for the pics. I was watching it on TV tonight and I said to my wife and son, "Hey they are using #4's" , which got a "huh ?" from my wife and a "cool" from my son.....

Lots of places still use Mosin's and they are even older....
A good rifle with a 10 round magazine. Plus in the right hands they a VERY long range.

                  Wouldn't these be in 7.62 NATO ?

In some other footage they were toting FAL's.

India never converted their #4s to 7.62. They made the 2A series in 7.62 but they still use the #1 and #4 in .303 plus a hodgepodge of other weapons: AKs, a version of the FN called the 1A, and the INSAS 5.56mm

They probably still have Martini Enfields and Long Lee Enfields somewhere in use!

when i was their i got a brief on their company organization. i still remember some of it rifleman all had inas grenadier ak 47 w/ubgl i don't remember the gpmg, they did seem interested in our saws i believe they were using a auto rifle inas and then in an assault element they had flamethrower!! but this was for their JAT regiment which I'm guessing since we met with them was a better unit. India army is huge so I'm sure some of the more backwater units are using enfields

oh ya i forgot this, they told us the aks were more popular because they were finding the 5.56 to be ineffective and unable to penetrate barriers

surprisingly, many organized countries still use flamethrowers.

japanese magazine "COMBAT" had a very interesting article on JSDF weapons. Some forces have been seen using Type-100 flame throwers and fletchette grenades
