I have a Yugo M48a Mauser that I bought recently. I'm all done removing the tons of cosmoline it came with. I just got down stripping and cleaning the bolt. Now I have a problem, everything assembles just fine. But when I go to put the bolt back on the gun it gets stuck. I looked closer and saw that the bolt shroud was touching the rail. I took everything apart and looks like the shroud is a little bent. What's weird is that before it was functioning just fine. Now can a gunsmith fix the shroud or do I need to get a new one. If I need a new one where is the best place to buy one. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Vince

Double check that the safety lever is in the middle or up position. It is a common problem to remove the bolt with the safety in the wrong position and it won't go back in. You just have to recock the bolt and reposition the lever. You can do it against a table edge. -

Unless it was tweaked when you got it, I find it hard to believe you bent or damaged anything. It is a very beefy rifle, designed for hard use.Comment

I would agree except that when I took mine to the local gunsmith for an extraction problem, he had the bolt on his workbench. I turned and picked up something from the bench, accidentally brushed the bolt with my arm, the bolt fell onto the floor. It was not more than 18 or 20" in height. I was flabbergasted to have found that the rear safety piece on the bolt hit the ground at just the right angle and snapped off the entire rear of the firing pin. It really was weird, it's a pretty thick and massive firing pin.
Ended up buying a new CNC machined one off of Gunbroker, hope it works okay, have not had a chance to test fire it yet. I agree, designed for hard use but I were a soldier, cleaning the gun in the field in between battles, I would have been pretty hosed ;-)NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

Upon further inspection and looking at new parts. It's definitely bent....don't ask me how but it is. Don't know how to post pics here with my iPhone or I would show everyone. So now how do I go about finding a bolt shroud. Anyone have one to sale. ThanksComment

Without looking at your bolt shroud to make sure, I will go out on a limb here and say it is pretty much impossible to "bend" a bolt shroud. However, on installation, the last little bit of turn while screwing the shroud on, requires that you push the shroud lock plunger in. If you don't do that while screwing it on, then the shroud won't be properly installed and you can't put the bolt back into the rifle.
But, if you really need one, PM me your address and I'll ship you one.Comment

OK, I have seen a broken firing pin in a Mauser. The tip wore down and apparently snapped off, making it too short to contact the primer.I would agree except that when I took mine to the local gunsmith for an extraction problem, he had the bolt on his workbench.
