Is it an 1898 or a 1909 and in what caliber? Rifle or carbine and does it still have a crest on the front receiver ring or is it ground off?

Both the 91 and 09 are good -- the 09 is considered best because it is a 98 action --- but the biggest thing is the ammo is no longer cheap -- still plentiful -- good cartridge, more powerful than 30/30 but less than 308 --7.62x54 - requires a .311-312 bullet - brass easy enough to make from 06 or even 8x57 -- my ha-penny

Yes, they are beautiful weapons. The fit and finish is as good if not better then most manufactures. The actions are very, very smooth. The ammo is still around, however, reloading would be worth the investment in the long run.
