Value help: Webley MKIV .38 S&W?

This is my first post here, I'm a car guy and hang out on the car forums, but have a few firearms also (habit seems to be getting worse!). My current collection includes a Colt 1911 Combat Commander, Ruger Redhawk .44MAG, SIG 2022, the Webley, a SKS, AK47 (preban), AR15 (CA legal), Mossberg 500, Yugo 8MM Mauser, and the venerable Ruger 10/22 (Is there anyone who doesn't or didn't own one?!)

A co-worker of mine, and one of the guys at Ades suggested I post here. I'm considering selling this, but I have no idea what its worth. The guides seem to be misleading from what I've read of "list price" vs. real world value. Also from searching the prices on Gun Broker and such seem to be all over the board so I have no idea.

It is a Webley MK4 .38 S&W in "War Finish", it is in excellent shape, tight, fires great and has the original(?) holster. The pics seem to make the finish look weird, but in person its great. No stampings for a police force or military that I can tell.

Second question is of legalities, forgive my ignorance, if I sell it, does it need to do a transfer like any other handgun, or due to the age it is exempt?

Thoughts, experience, opinions, suggestions are all welcome!

    Thanks
    Mike

she needs to go through a FFL, and at that condition, I'd say I'd be interested to giving you money for it

I see lesser condition Webley .38s and Enfield No.4 revolvers go between 250 and 300

Yours looks like a $250-300 gun, but I'd have to see it in person to tell. The original military finish wasn't very shiny on the Mk4's. The holsters are also pretty common.

If you get weird Police or military stampings, it makes the value go up- you want those

Why not keep it? It's a unique military arm, and they shoot very well. If you buy more C&Rs later, you may regret selling it.

I thought about keeping it, but it hasn't been fired in about five years and sits in the safe so I figured I may sell it and reinvest the funds back into the collection or trade for something interesting. I may regret selling it, I just wish I could hear the stories it could tell! I'm not sure, but that may be blood splatter on the end of the holster! $300 sounds fair and its kind of what I was thinking, but being a N00b I figured I would test the water. Look for the for sale posting or if you are reading this, PM me. Thanks again,
            Mike

Nice Webley! Not to hijack the thread too much but I've developed a real fondness for the commercial versions of the .38 Webley. This is one of a consecutive serial number pair of Commercials with the flying bullet Webley logo made in the late 40s. I've been trying to find an affordable .32 Webley but they are few and expensive.

                I might be interested.

Where exactly are you located and where you willing to do transfer?
