Look at the Ruger Vaquero revolvers. I like the transfer bar safety that allows you to rotate the cylinder while the hammer is down. Price wise they are decent, especially if you can find a used one.

Depends on how "cowboy" you want to go. You can spend a ton of money and get a real colt.

You can get a Ruger Blackhawk, but its' more of a "modern cowboy" single-action. Then there's the Ruger Vaquero's which are a little more traditional.

Beretta has a lineup of REAL NICE looking traditional cowboy single-actions. They are seriously beautiful. Real deep bluing, color case-hardened frames, and most are under 600$ in price. Turners in SoCal carry these bad boys. One of them is probably going to be my next gun.
      Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I picked up a Beretta Stampede Marshall for my first 6 gun. Aside from my ejector road assembly falling off once during the break-in period, it's a been blast....literally

          Blackhawks are nice...

You can usually find some good deals on used ones too...

The new Colt SAA is pretty darn "real", it is the same gun with some minor mechanical improvements but same external design, they are available, they handle current ammo, they are beautiful, shoot straight, go bang every time you pull the trigger...

Do you want one that shoots? (serious question)

You are familiar with the cartridges of the era, right?

i am not familiar w/ anything about them. i'm really more of a collector more than a shooter, so it does't have to be a shooter. but i would prefer that it be functional "just-because".

                        so im looking @ 2.5k?

where is a good place to look? gunbroker seems to have "new" versions of the saa.........hmmm(???)

Not so sure buying a $2500+ used gun on Gunbroker is a good idea.

                            Where are you located?
