    Laminated stocks are made from laminated wood. That's wood that is made up from layers and layers of thin wood strips that are glued together. Laminated stocks tend to be very durable.

      A laminated stock is a stock made of multiple sheets of wood glued (laminated) together instead of from one solid piece of wood. As an example, plywood is laminated wood.

      Depending of the specific rifle you are looking at, it may be original equipment.

          in addition, because laminate is made of different woods and glues, they are generally lighter than the hardwood counterparts

          For the most part, laminate is a refurbish or latter generation switch which happened roughly in the mid 40s. Notable guns with Laminate variations include the German Mauser 98k, Russian Mosin Nagant series, and SKS/SKS-pattern rifles.

          Modern firearms can be offered in laminate for a premium and they tend to be choice for people who favor color in their firearms.

                Cheaper, too. You don't have to find a huge chunk of wood that's suitable for a rifle stock. You can use much lower-quality wood and turn out a perfectly good quality stock with it.

                  I prefer the looks of laminate stocks over solid hardwood, plus they resist warpage better than solid stocks. If a C&R is available in a laminate stock, that's the one I'll get.

                    in addition to Oaklander, who stated that laminated stocks are composed of multiple layers of thinly sliced wood and very durable, here is why;

                    Laminated plywood (in the case of rifle stocks) is made of 1/10" veneers that are arranged in a cross banded fashion. this means that each layer of veneer is oriented so that the grain is perpendicular to the layer before and after it. This is what gives such strength. The vast majority of rifle stocks are made from russian birch. this tree grows very slowly and produces very dense wood (relatively speaking). These veneers are coated with a urea-formaldehyde glue, oriented in a cross-band fashion, and pressed (usually around 30min @ 340(ish) degrees farenheit. Plywood is much more stable than solid lumber. This is a function of 2 things. first, plywood is constructed using an odd number of sheets. second, the crossbanding. These two things keep a sheet of plywood flat and prevent twisting (inherent in lumber)

                    hope that helps.

                      This is true for the kind of plywood that one makes cabinets and furniture out of. This kind of plywood is made using Douglas Fir or Pine as the inner plies (very soft and light-weight). This is not true for stocks, however. Stocks are made using birch inner plies as well as the face and back. Birch is hard and heavy (when compared to other woods). So, a laminated stock would be heavier than a walnut or maple stock.

                          It's just a thick piece of plywood. Let's not make it too complicated now! haha
