Need Scope Advice on an M1D

I bought a Service Grade M1D Garand from the CMP awhile back, and have been pretty disappointed at the prices and availability of the USGI M84 scopes and mounts. I prefer to always go with the original gear when possible, but after seeing that the CMP has an M-82 Replica Setup on sale, I'm thinking about it. If anyone has any experience with these replica scopes and mounts or otherwise has an opinion, I would appreciate hearing it. I want to end up with a cool shooter that is of historical interest. I'm not interested in putting a modern scope on my M1D. Using a reproduction feels like selling out, but it's sold by the CMP, so it's a much smaller sin to sell out, right?

I wouldn't have a problem using a repro scope if it's of good quality. Since it's able to be used at the CMP vintage sniper matches, it must be an accurate reproduction. No point in denying yourself a scope just because it's not GI.

I didn't like the quality of the Repo, replaced it with OE

OP, I am in the same situation- I have an M1D with no mount or scope. I shot an original PU Mosin at the Western Games last fall and I am not sure what I will do this year. I am toying with the idea of getting a legit M84/mount but I just can't justify it when I have other snipers I could use and I have no idea if my M1D is even going to be a decent shooter.

I saw that email today and even pulled my CC out and set it on my desk here... luckily I closed the email before I made the impulse buy. I hope you buy one and report back!

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Seems as though quality is all over the place. Some say they are OK and others say they are junk
IMO save your money and buy the real deal
