    Mysterious Spanish Mauser

What's up guys, I have a Mauser and I've been told (on here actually) it's from Spain. Everything has been removed so I have no idea the year, or caliber for that matter haha.

But anyways, I'm wondering if there is a smith that can varify the caliber, and check it to see if it's safe to fire. I think it's called "slugging" the barrel to check caliber. And I'm not sure what checking if it's safe would entail, headpace and other stuff I assume.

It has the vent port on the left side of the reciever, I was told it was a vent at least.

Nothing matches, the stock doesn't look horrible bit the metal parts look well used.

    Thanks guys

Here are the pictures I promised. Still looking for a local gunsmith to check it out. Sorry for the bad quality

It is not that really, it is just that it is completely unreasonable to expect any sort of accurate, intelligent identification of the rifle without posting pictures.

No I know, I'm just saying I'm usually better with pictures. But I swear I had pictures of it.

Spanish M1916 was going to be my guess as well.

Could be either 7mm or 7.62

Typically the rechambered ones are marked 7.62

Not always. I've seen scrubbed ones in 7.62, they're usually in the "OT" serial number block.

Then it's likely 7.62 NATO, although there is a remote chance it could be 7mm.

Bubba quick test...stick a standard yellow pencil in the bore. If it falls in, it's not a 7mm.

I like that test Trap! But wouldn't it do the same for 762?
