    Semiauto Thompson question

Let's say that the you had a semi auto frame for a Thompson and fixed it with a permanent magazine.

What parts from an original Thompson 1928 could you not put in/on the frame?

What parts in addition to the frame are controlled?

I have yet to see a "solid" design that locks the thompson mags. I bought an AR15 buttstock spring and detent to lock the mag but after looking the design over and reading some things here I decided not to go that route.

Most of the internal parts won't work in the semi auto. Most of the external parts will attach. The only thing external that would be controlled I can think of right now would be the barrels (would make it an SBR). I also know that a lot of semi auto thomson owners buy the FA mag catch so they can use USGI mags (the semi auto ones run up to $50-$70). I wanted to save some money so I just modified the mags themselves.

I have an idea for a bullet button, but no one has been brave enough to let me try it

You can try it on mine if it doesn't involved messing with the metal.

The first thing I would try to replace would be the safety lever, as long as it doesn't result in a dangerous condition. Semiauto Thompsons of recent manufacture have that later style which looks cheap. I don't own a Thompson so I can't say whether this would work.

Any place can sell them to CA if you just remove the PG before you ship it.
