First shots fired from my Garand

Well, not the first shots, but they are my first shots

This rifle is a rush to shoot. Recoil is really not bad, just a firm push as you can see. My shirt is basically one layer of ripstop polycotton and it didn't leave any bruising.

This thing really got my heart beating like no other gun I own. I'm starting to 'get' why this is so loved by current and previous owners. I had to slow my pace and think about my breathing when I started to miss. I love both the Garand and Carbine, so very happy with the purchase

Also got to try the Carbine, though it's not on video. Managed a 4" group seated at 80 yards with the Carbine and about 3.5" with the Garand. Both guns came to me sighted in perfectly, hitting right where that front post was placed. The Carbine has a light push, but would be new shooter friendly in my opinion. My Dad remembered shooting the Garands in OCS and boot camp back in the 60s. He said there were more guys in his day that were drafted and never shot a gun a day in their life. It made me realize another benefit to switching to the M16 / M4, it's arguably easier for a new shooter to learn on and be proficient with.

My Dad was nice enough to film me with my iPhone. That 30-06 smacks the **** out of that AR500. With the pistols, my dad can't hear the plates with his hearing but could with these rifles.

I could hear the ping, but it doesn't come through over the shot and steel hit

Well done. They really are a treat to shoot, I wish I could shoot mine more.

Now you know why they are so sweet to shoot! Eight bangs, a ping then followed by a big grin. Enjoy.

The M1 is a fun rifle to shoot.

And even shooting a mosin with only a t-shirt on shouldn't leave bruising with good form.

glad you found out what a treat they are. C&R caught my fancy about 3 1/2 years ago and so far all i dream of are more C&Rs. God bless the modern gun worshipers but most leave me unfulfilled. If they do not have a history behind them i am not interested. No richer history than a M1 Garand.

                  M1 carbine?

I always bring my m1 carbine for new shooters. I think it is the perfect gun for a beginner.I leave the ars and aks at home . I like to beleive they will build more respect for firearms when they shoot the classics, and not the "cool" guns.

                  Maybe just wishful thinking.

With all the garand talk around here lately, i think ill take mine to the range next time.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.
Next thing you know, you think "Deliverance" is a love story.

                    Congrats on the M1.
I hadn't shot mine in almost a year - not because I don't love the M1 but because of newly acquired toys. But for a rifle match this past June 6th, there was only one choice for me: M1 Garand. Love affair renewed.

I am glad that you like the M1 pair

Did you use the regular HXP ammo on the steel? I think either way the Garand packs a punch and the Carbine is surprisingly accurate. I was bench shooting the M1 Carbine a long while ago at 25 yds and the holes can almost touch each other. I bet it can do about 4" at 100 yds.

I only mentioned the bruising because my dad has a couple Browning lever guns in 243 and 308. Those things pack a wallop and the 308 left an ugly red, purple, and yellow bruise the last time I took it out. Probably was my (lack of) form, but those are my current benchmarks for ow

Awesome! I may try and go, maybe only watch this time. That was seriously the first time shooting it. Not sure I can do anything too rapidly with it I'm assuming these are shots on paper for scoring?

Yessir, the other Calgunner that sold me this Garand also included a Carbine in our arrangement

I thought about PM'ing you this thread

That was the HXP brass and the 12" gong that I already put the 3 holes in accidentally with the M1917 and old black tip ammo. The Carbine really surprised me, you got these sights perfect. What a fun and handy gun. My dad had stories about when they released those as surplus. Sortof a nice surprise to spark so many fond memories and stories from him

Richmond Rod And GUn Club allows extra time for newbies if needed. There is a score when its all done, but it is the encouragement from others that keeps most people coming back.
OP if you decide to come out, know that the next match isn't until Oct.That s along time to wait for the M1 fan.

Wonderful! It's great to see those old guns come back to life in the hands of civilians.

The M1 is such an awesome, well made gun. It was a fine representative of the best of American industry.

A semi auto .30-06 would be fun to shoot even without the history or the ping. As it is, it's really a pretty unique rifle.
