Need Help Starting a WW2 rifle collection

I'm trying to get a collection of WW2 era rifles started and i'm wondering which one is the best to buy right now. It seems that Mosin's are still being imported which leads me to believe that the price will eventually go up while the prices on rifles that are no longer being imported is probably fairly stable.
Right now i'm trying to decide between a type 99 (with Mum) and a Mosin PU sniper. It seems i'm going to pay from between 700 and 1,000 for decent versions of either but since the Mosin's are still being imported they will probably rise in price faster than the type 99. So I was thinking of getting the PU and waiting to pick up a type 99 later.. does that seem like a wise decision?

Get everything. I should've picked up more K98 's when Big Five had them for sixty something bucks.

IF you can afford it,buy a M1 from CMP.They wont get any cheaper, and when they are gone watch what happens to prices then .
      Keep it simple!

I just got a K98, the numbers don't match but it's in pretty good shape. I got it for 550.00

My problem with the CP is that you can't see the rifles and I don't really want to get a post WW2 rifle. Although you have a point... I was holding off on that one because good ones seem to go for around 1,200 or so.
DO you think my logic on the type 99 vs the PU is sound?

Get a Garand. Surplus is drying up and prices are skyrocketing.

Although the price of the M1's the CP is selling is around the same as the two I was looking at. Now you have me thinking.

I was just looking at the website and I see you can visit and pick them out yourself... I happen to be traveling though the Ohio area in September so I think i'll get one then.

You don't want a post WW2 M1?Its a pre WW2 design.M1s don't vary all that much, been rebuilt at least once, all mixmasters that will hold there value against anything out there.

Best way to get help starting a C&R hobby as you mentioned is to go to a state where you can buy C&R without an FFL.
Like the old days in California.

True... but I might as well wait for September, particularly since the website says it takes almost that long to process the mail order anyway.

Don't forget the new law PC27585 which says any firearm you acquire out of state must be shipped to a FFL here and transfered to you, I don't think there is any leeway for C&R unless you have C&R FFL. Not sure, just be aware things have changed effective Jan 1 2015.

                      27585. (a) Commencing January 1, 2015, a resident of this state
shall not import into this state, bring into this state, or transport
into this state, any firearm that he or she purchased or otherwise
obtained on or after January 1, 2015, from outside of this state
unless he or she first has that firearm delivered to a dealer in this
state for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set
forth in Section 27540 and Article 1 (commencing with Section 26700)
and Article 2 (commencing with Section 26800) of Chapter 2.

I'm military and in route to another state so I think I should be good (although that state is NY so I'd better do some research).

Mosin is a good place to start, but a Garand is the centerpiece of any WWII collection. I am a Mauser guy at heart so K98 has to be there too. A K98 can be anywhere from $300 to $3000 depending on the particular rifle.
