    Almost-Almost there 1903a3

Well the tung oil is dry and to reassemble the 1903a3 into the new stock:

I like said - almost there, got a couple of issues:

The front guard screw won't go down all the way (it did in the old stock but was a bear to get loose)

    This is the 2nd issue:

Like a dummy I lost the screw/bolt that goes there (some people says that I've had a screw loose for a long time but that's another story)

The 2nd issue I can order another one but the first issue I need help,
Should I just order another front guard screw?
I've taken it out and put back in several times but still the same issue.
    Any suggestions?

Nice A3 the finest bolt action rifle the USA ever used. I no longer own a Garand or my 1903A3 but i miss the A3 more. better balance and i have no need to fire off a 8 round burst simi auto at 30 06 ammo prices.

So what would you call this?

        Bolt - Screw??

It looks like you have the rear guard screw in the front. They both go through from the bottom but the rear one is a little longer.

            Nice rifle!

Just want to make sure you know that the gap between the rear tang of the receiver and the stock is important to prevent cracking the stock. In fact, it looks a little close on the right side and you might want to remove a little wood there so you have an even gap around the rear tang.
              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I salute Dennis's tenacity in completing this project. It makes me appreciate my 1903A3 even more.

And IIRC a gap between the top of the screw and the opening at the rear of the receiver is normal. It does not come up flush to the top.

I think you have the rear trigger guard screw installed in the front position...
Here are some nice replacement screws: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/511...g-package-of-2.
You also seem to be missing the stock reinforcing cross bolts and nuts.

Are the necessary or nice to have?

Well the reinforcing bolts were put there for a reason, I'd get them and install them. You're sooooo close to having her finished!

Dennis, you should be able to use the cross bolt from your original stock.
