    New Beech

Just picked up this beautiful new stock for my K98. It's nice and blonde. From what I'm seeing, I don't think it has ever been sanded. Stock cartouches are still sharp. What's interesting about this stock is that it has a factory cutout for a ZF41 scope. Has a "43" and illegible letters under the butt plate, so I'm assuming it's 1943 production. Unfortunately, the hand guard does not match the stock. I've been waiting a long time to get a nice stock like this.

I'm not sure if it is just the photos but it appears to be red Beech.

So will it be a strawberry blond or are you planning on just BLO or a nice penetrating stain first?

It should be a great piece of wood to finish, no matter what you choose to do.

Very nice looking stock. What is the oil that was used on the German military stocks originally? If possible, I would go with that for the authentic look.
