Should I rub out the rust more? I'm using CLP with a cloth.

    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I have one in about the same condition metal wise. I just keep at it with scotch fiber pad and oil on it. rubbing with oil and Q tip also works. I mostly am trying to keep it from getting worse. Just today i had about one HR to kill and i took the rear sight flip up spring out and cleaned that area of the rife. If it is a hard to see or get at spot i use a coat of white grease in that area to protect the metal.

I have also had good luck with big 45 pads, but they take a little practice to cut the rust, and not jack the finish.
