    Lots of mosins

So I just picked up a crate of mosins I bought and was wondering if anyone could tell me what to keep an eye open for as far as rarity goes besides being a hex receiver.

Any pre-1939 dated models, as well as any post-1945 will be made a bit better.
Any non-refurbs will of course be worth more. I have a non-refurb 91/30 but it is a SCW piece and may not look like a Russian original.
Others here are much more knowledgeable than I.

I don't know Mosins as well as I should, but I can get you started: Look for Ex Snipers, Dragoons, Hex Receivers, Imperial Russia (older) ones. There are a lot of websites out there where you can look up the markings on the receivers. You are going to have a lot of fun sorting those. Take your time and enjoy it.

Not that Calguns isn't an excellent source of information, but you might be better off taking a look through some of the dedicated Mosin forums and websites. You'll discover just how many variations of them are out there. I couldn't begin to tell you what is considered truly rare when it comes to the Russian made guns.

Research, research, research. Any made prior to 1930 (31 for Tula) are ex dragoons or 91s. Too many variations to list, but look for ex snipers, MO, KO, XO and SA marks. Look for stocks that have screwed in sling escutcheons.

A whole crate! Nicely done! We all want to see the crate too. You must post pics. Better yet, we would like to see the crate filled with your shiny new Mosins. I never get tired of that.

A 5-line Tsar rifle would be really cool to find.

Thanks for helping out guys and I'll be sure to post a picture of them all in the crate as soon as I finish cleaning them. May be a few days. Looks like all but one are Ukrainian re-furbs but there is one with hex receiver that is a beauty. Has a 1932 date and seems to be all matching numbers.

Hold each rifle in your hand as if you were firing it away from you. Pull the trigger and remove the bolt straight backwards and out. There is a screw up on top under the bolt and another on the underside of the rifle. but underneath the top screw is the "Tang stamp identification". This is when the rifle was originally manufactured. Goto that 762x54R site which is very good and research the identifying marks on both the Tang and Receiver. Oh and the best time to clean it is when they are apart. Mine was 1928 hex on top and come to find it's a over 117 year old 1898 manufactured Tula hammerEx-Dragoon! Pretty fun histories with these things. You have hours of fun....but don't get your hopes up on finding a golden egg! Even that one is worth less than $100 more. Have fun! And Post the pics of the finished crate in the man cave...please.

Thanks for the advice Obstreperous on the pliers my fingers are starting to kill me from sliding them off and there's been basically no rust on any so far. Guess I've been lucky.

Nice pickup. If you post a picture of the crest on all the rifles it will be easy to determine what you've got.
