Price check on a SKS please

I might buy a Chinese type 56 sks from a family member. It is pretty much flawless, and all matching. Low serial number as well. What is a ballpark fair market value of this gun? Thanks in advance!

I have seen cherry Norinco SKS rifles bring $350-400 regularly. Beat up (usually Albanian import) Chinese SKS $275-$325.

Price can be driven up by a few variables. Is it a Sino-Soviet? Factory markings? Serial and prefix if there is one? Pictures would really help determine value.

I'll have to do some research to see if it's a sino-soviet. I'd post pics, but photobucket won't let me anymore.

Ok, so it has the Chinese symbols, and the /26\, so I assume it's not a sino-soviet.

I got a fairly beat up one for 175,great shooter thOugh, if this one is in great condition all matching 300 would be a reasonable friend price, he might be able to get 400 if he posted it in marketplace.

Okay, later factory 26 SKS. Does it still have a bayonet? Some of the Norinco SKS imports had them removed.
Also, you can post pictures as an attachment in your post via the forum.

Just a rifle, $375, with accessories/sling $400 is average market value.

This kind of condition? This is just one off google.

$400 and it should sell fairly quickly, $450 and it will sell to someone that really wants it. Anything after $425 and you're approaching Russian SKS territory.

Yes as clean as that one. Thanks for all the help fellas. Just wanted to make sure $250 was a deal. Does the serial # give an approximate date of manufacture?

You'd need to show pictures. There are all manner of serial number variations on Chinese SKS rifles. A really early one would be a ghost or Sino with 4 or 5 digits, or 4 digits preceded by a letter. The vast majority of Chicoms will have 7 digit or higher serial numbers. If it is clean and spiked bayo it is almost certainly a newer one.

The overall build quality of any Chinese SKS will be outstanding. Despite the descriptions by some that the Chicoms are cheaply built or inferior to Russians, Romy's etc. They aren't.

I agree with Bobby on this one. I've owned many SKS's in my time and an old beat up Factory 26 chino was the most accurate of the bunch...better then the Russians I've owned. I bought the thing at Turners in the early 80s for $69...sold it for $400 some years later...big mistake..You better jump on that thing NOW.
