calling on experts **ADDED MORE PICS**

    What do I have?
I had it in the safe for many decades and now thinking about selling it.
I would like to know what I have and how much should I ask.

    Thanks in advance.

It's a German sporter probably made from a GEW98. But you need to take CLEAR and in FOCUS pic's of the bolt, top of the front receiver, barrel markings, and any other markings. These guns were called "Cigarette rifles".

Before it looked like empty space. Now it looks like a stripped barreled receiver and half a stock.

In your out of focus (except the foot) photo, it looks like there is a crest on the receiver. Include that in your next photo.

I am certain that is a left foot.
Do you have two by any chance?
Seriously though, it would be helpful to upload a few pictures of the entire rifle, along with focused pictures of markings.

Quite a nicely done Mauser sporter - get it slugged before shooting, mine was not 7,9X57mm but a slight variant there-of, an intra-war civilian legal caliber.
Although yours looks more modern - so, probably fine.

Can take a pic of the entire rifle?

If people have been telling you how German WWII rifles have been going for several thousand dollars, you are going to be disappointed in what your sporter is worth.

As an expert, please update the thread title and post pics of the entire rifle

Looks like a Mauser or clone.

Former military large-ring Mauser that's been sported.

Yes, need some clear overall pix.

Was it common to engrave a sporterized military rifle?
I figured it was a civilian mauser.
