    Premier .22 pump-action rifles?

    Good afternoon all,

Does anyone know anything about the "Premier" brand of .22 rifles? I came across one yesterday and picked it up because it was a neat little rifle. Rough shape but still shoots well. Octagonal barrel, pump action, take-down screw on the right side of the receiver, .22 short, long, and long rifle.

The top of the barrel is stamped PREMIER along with .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle.
Other than that and the serial number which is four digits and the letter "K", there is nothing else stamped on the rifle.

I can't seem to find much info as Premier seems to be a company that sold several variations of similar rifles through a few different manufacturers. So far it seems this rifle is either a Mossberg Model M variant or a Savage Model 29K variant.
I can't really seem to find anything specific though. The biggest reason I'm asking is that some of the internals are very worn (To be expected for a 80-100 year old .22). I would like to give her a little tune-up if possible, just need to know which parts to buy.

I'm not sure if anyone knows much about these rifles or a good resource. I have done my googling for two days now and can't seem to find anything definitive. Seems like most of the info I find is misinformation anyways.

    Thanks,
    Tim

      Hi John,
It looks almost identical to the Stevens 29A except that there are no stamps on it like the Stevens and Savages have and the large take-down knob/screw is on the right side of the receiver, not the left.
Other than those two bits, it looks basically identical, though the pump handle is a bit smaller than the Stevens too.

Mossberg made it for Wards, it's based on the Meriden, "I think" the Model 15. The son of Savage had the patent rights to the Meriden, that's the Savage connection.
Jack First is probably going to be your best bet for parts.

        Edit: Yep, the Model 15.

I've gotta figure out which rifle I have before I order spare parts haha.
I did find that it probably is not the Mossberg though since mine has the standard push button safety at the back of the trigger guard as opposed to a tang safety similar to the Mossberg 500.

So it does look much more like a Savage/Stevens Model 29 but mine still has no stampings and the takedown knob is on the opposite side of the receiver

look up Premier Trailblazer you will find lots of info Savage/Stevens 29a could also be early Mossberg you can tell by the way the receiver seperates

From everything I've read it sounds more like a Savage than a Mossberg now. The receiver splits along the top about 1/3 from the left of the receiver, the serial number ends in a "K", there is a push button safety, etc. So it sounds like it is some type of Savage or Stevens. My takedown knob is still on the opposite side of the Model 29s I've seen pictures of though, but it seems to be some offshoot of the Model 29 for sure.
              Thanks for your help!

I'll try. I deleted my photobucket account long ago because I got sick of all their crap e-mails. I'll be taking it out to the mine pits this weekend so I'll snap some pictures and see if I can get them posted.

Pull up images of a Mossberg Model K, and compare them to your gun.

I'll check it out, thanks John
Trap - Yeah upon inspection earlier I found that it is not the Mossberg. Mossbergs have the tang safety like the Mossberg 500 shotguns do, my Premier rifle has a pushbotton safety at the back of the trigger guard.

That's it, thanks John Myers. Looks like mine is in pretty rough shape compared to others, but I won't complain about an old school take-down .22 rifle. Its a lot of fun so far, just gotta find some standard velocity .22 ammo now.

Thanks again everyone for your help

I've got my Model 25 apart here on my bench right now. I need to make the pivot pin for the operating lock. Parts are hard to come by for these, not many made.
A pic, and maybe some measurements of yours? would make this an easier job.

You need #12 on Numrich's list? I'll see what I can do. Mine is well used and worn - to the point where I'm a bit afraid to start disassembling things until I have some spare parts for what looks warn down. My shell carrier and the pins and springs in it seem pretty down and out. But I'll see what I can do. I don't have a manual for this thing so disassembly might take me some time.
