First purchase as 03/COE?

Alright, so my COE finally came in the mail and I'm itching to put it to use. My only problem is that I don't know what to look for. The obvious rifles I either have (M1, M1 Carbine, M48, M91/30, 1903A3, 1917, Chinese SKS) or they're out of my price range that I've seen (K98). On top of that, pistols have to be sent to an 01FFL which kills the nostalgia of ups showing up at my doorstep.

Preferably something that can be found under $800 parts matching. I'm willing to be patient and shop a bit too. Also, ammo needs to have some level of availability because I want a shooter. I can reload if I need to add a new caliber that doesn't come cheap.

What do you guys think?

Also, if I buy on Gunbroker, that can still be sent straight to me correct? Regardless if the seller has an FFL or not?

How about a Swiss K31 or 1911 rifle? You can get it from Simpsons and truly know what you are buying. GP11 is available and not very expensive - and it's virtually match grade ammo. If you want to reload, it's easy to do with .308 bullets. I reload mine using PPU brass and 168gr HPBT.

I've been thinking about a k31. Aim has them for $350 if you get hand select but I don't think it comes with a sling or bayonet (doesn't have to but it would be cooler).

I'll browse Simpsons some more and see what jumps out at me. Is GP11 corrosive like the com bloc stuff? How about available in cans or bulk?

Agreed - Simpsons, LTD has the best (IMHO) selection of Swiss rifles!

Definitely a K31 and/or 1911 long rifle. Also consider a Swedish Mauser.
