    Erl Svensden

So, I got a Erl Svensden Pony Express from my Grandfather after his death. It was his favorite. He always ran 38 Special through it. After reading up and doing a little thinking on it.....the revolver is marked "38". NOT 38 Special.
My question is......38 Special okay, or is there something better to run through it. It fires fine, just don't wanna blow it up and lose it....or some digits.

    Thanks in advance.
    Here's a pic.

(re-sized your pic OP 'cause.... damn - QBG)

I apologize for the mongo picture, don't know how to shrink it down. The bright side though, you can clearly see the markings.

If it is not marked .38 special - I wouldn't run .38 special through it.

Looks like he handmade a lot of the firearms he sold, another reason not to run it with .38 special, find some "cowboy" style loads.

      Nice heirloom.

Could it possibly be chambered in .38 Colt?

That's what I was thinking, if that's the case, the 38 Colt was a black powder round, much less pressure than a special. Think I'll pick up some dies and roll my own.

did you google the gun? I found a thread at THR with posts from someone who claims personal knowledge of the man. he claims the Pony Express was chambered in either .22lr or .38 special. they were made in the '60's and '70's.

apparently, a GB auction last November reached $1925 for a Pony Express. highly sought after by a small group of aficionados.

eta- the revolvers were brand named "4 Aces". in the 1977 Gun Digest that brand is listed chambered in .22lr, .22wmr, .38 special and .357 mag. given these facts, and the pistol's history of shooting .38 special it's whole life, I wouldn't hesitate to continue.

btw, OP your sig is incorrectly attributed- the Legends' close friend Ryan Job deserves the credit.

Yes, I have Googled it and actually found that thread that you mentioned.....however, somehow I never saw the post from the guy that knew him before.

$1925.00!!! Holy smokes. I'll never sell it but kinda cool to know they're sought after.

Good to know, I'm thinking I may start loading some "cowboy" loads for it just the same, it's not like I can just run out and replace parts for it, ya now?

I'm aware of that, I originally put it there simply to pay homage to the company that Chris started, I'll be changing it slightly though, seeing how Craft basically tried to screw Taya.

              Thanks for the info.
