On 12-31-13 someone got into my shop and took some cash and a P64. I figured I'd never see either again. I did call the Sheriff's dept., because I know legally I have to report the gun theft. I called at 4:00. By 8:00, no one had shown up. I called back and was told, "We're really busy right now, call back tomorrow."
So I come to the shop on Jan. 1st. I call at 10:00, by 4:00, still nobody. I call again. Same story, we're busy call back tomorrow. WTF!
Come to work on the 2nd and call again. At 11:30 a deputy arrives and takes the report
. I'm thinking this is a complete waste of time, but the law is the law.
Then on Feb 1st 2015, I get a letter from the County Sheriff and the DOJ telling me they have recovered the gun
. Just fill out this form so we can see if its your gun and you can legally own it. The process may take up to 30 days.
34 days later I get another letter saying it is my gun and I can have it back, woohoo. It doesn't however say how or where to do this. The next day I call the phone # on the letter. Nothing but a useless recording. Luckily I kept the original letters, so I call the Sheriff's dept. They give me a different DOJ #. I call that, they tell me the Sheriff's dept has the gun and to call them
The sheriff dept. says yes they have it at the property building off Bradshaw, but they are only open Monday thru Thursday, this was Friday
So today the saga comes to an end and I have the P64 back
