    New Yugo M48 Hunting Rifle

So I won this all matching # Yugo M48BO from an online auction and thought to myself "Hey this might be a cool project to turn this rifle into a hunting rifle" so I had the scope laying around found some mounts on the Bay, got me a nice leather cheek riser/ammo pouch and Viola!!! I was originally looking for either the Zrak Mounts or Banner mounts but those are about as elusive as Sasquash!!! Anyway here's some pics.

Def cool looking - well done

You'll need to practice 1st, so here's a range target:

That looks awesome. I've got a Spanish M43 that was tapped for a scope, still haven't fired it yet.

Interesting cheek riser. What kind is it? Where can I get one?

        Are those turret mount bases?

Post a range report when you can.

I sure will. The cheek riser is from http://brassstacker.com/MAUSER/

The rings are the quick detach type by Borom of Canada. They set me back $225. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321671878618

I'm definitely not a hunter but I love my Yugo Mausers. You will be delighted with your M48. It is a reliable workhorse of a rifle and a good shooter. It is a common enough C&R that it isn't blasphemous to D&T to fit your needs either. If you zero it with irons expect that it will shoot high at 100 yards.

This is exactly why I chose this one instead of my unissued 98/29 Persian!!

I was fortunate to run across a 98/29 that had previously been owned by someone less discerning than yourself...

I mounted a Bushnell scope on it and put it to use in the "open" class at a vintage military silhouette match.

It is a fantastic shooter. The vintage military rifle silhouette match is a 40 round match, with 10 rounds fired at 220 yards (chickens), 330 yards (pigs), 420 yards (turkeys) and 550 yards (rams).

I've shot several 39/40's with the Persian. Here are the scores from a match last year in which I used the Persian. As you can see, it bested some rifles known for their accuracy

This is usual for the Persian. First shot usually 12 o'clock, next rounds a little higher and to the left. At 100 yards with reloads.

I have two M48's and two 98/29's. The Yugo is not in the same class of rifle as the Persian, which is rightly considered among the best Mausers ever built. The M48 will however serve your needs, especially if you use decent ammo.

Something old, something new. Works for me.

I've got a half dozen 98/29's and half dozen various Yugo Mausers and tend to agree with Bobby. However, I've gotten pretty good results with the Yugo Mausers and yours looks like honey. If the barrel is as good as the rest of the rifle, it should do you fine.

And trust me, ' 1975, you would not want to tote a 98/29 around while you are hunting
