    IAB 1874 Sharps

Hey all I have a new to me family hand down IAB 1874 Sharps in 45-70. I know based on the research I have done that is not the greatest of the sharps copies out there but it didn't cost me a dime so I can't complain. I have been told that the rifle was shooting touching groups at 100 when it was last shot. However I am struggling with the insanely heavy trigger pull...its got to be 20# or so. I know IAB made a couple variants of their sharps one with the round barrel and single trigger and a more "match" style one with double triggers and an octagon barrel. I am wondering if any of you guys have any experience or know anybody who has swapped the triggers out on them. I can pick up a double set trigger as seen below but obviously don't want to buy it if it's not going to work out. I've googled this to some degree and come up empty. If anybody has any ideas I'd sure like to hear em!

The triggers alone from Jeff won't work, you still need the dbl set parts for the lock plate. Might contact EMF and ask what parts are needed to convert it, and where to get them. Jeff may be able to tell you too, give him a call, great guy to deal with.
Dbl set triggers will make a huge difference in trigger pull.

I have a IAB gemmer model in 4570, very accurate, mounted a leatherwood 18" 6x scope on it.

Lots of soft parts on it, you may be able to swap it out without additional parts, we can compare if interested.

Sounds good! I will definitely reach out to him. I guess if its going to be a PITA to convert it my next option would be figuring out how to lighten up the trigger pull.

You lighten the trigger pull by installing a dbl set trigger.
Seriously, pretty much why Sharps put dbl sets in their rifles. Honing and polishing can smooth it out and lighten it up some, but the sear engagement has to be exact. If it isn't, you run into all kinds of problems, like the hammer catching on the half cock.
Converting it, is just a matter of parts, and swapping them out, it isn't hard to do. If I remember right, it's the stirrup, tumbler, and fly. Most any repro parts will interchange,

I would call Jeff first, he has connections for the Italian repro part over runs, probably where that trigger set came from, and most times his prices are half what it would cost you from the source. He's a busy guy, one man operation. You call, and he answers the phone!

Sounds like Jeff is the man with the plan! haha I'll give him a shout. Thanks for sending the eploded parts diagrams. That makes it a bit easier to kinda tell what is what. I've been looking at my stock and I probably will need to inlet the wood a bit to fit the larger trigger mech in there.
