    Need info on the Garand stamp on stock

    I wonder what it means, please chime in with your awesome knowledge
    Even though I'm selling it, I like to know about it

    Department of Defense Acceptance Stamp I think. I have seen them on many grades from the $630 field $730 service grades.

      Shows that it was stamped between 1953-57, does it means that the stock might be original?

        Original for that time period, original to the rifle possibly.

            There is no real way of telling what is original to a Granand since it was designed as a modular gun that was assembled from parts out of a bin. All you can really verify is that it has period correct parts. DOD is all postwar and your receiver serial should be in the 4.3 million and up range. I think only HRA/IHC got the DOD stamp on the stocks.

              All Post War stocks have DOD stamps with the exception of a very short serial range of very early HRA and IHC Garands.
