Nice rifle and story. 52's are very under-appreciated. You can see the beginnings of the Czech tilting camlock design as found on the 58's, a very robust and interesting design no one else adopted and completely unique to the Czech's. The receiver also had area hardening around the locking lugs done with an electrical process, way ahead of it's time. Using heat to set the barrel was also pretty unique, I don't think there are any pins holding it in place.

I was watching that new war movie "Lone Survivor" and some guy had a line in the beginning where he said that there where Marines serving 20 years at Leavenworth for taking back war trophies (I assumed during the Afghan and Iraq wars). Is this true??

We have evolved as a society. Our Overlords no longer see any reason why modern day warriors should be able to enjoy the spoils of war, as has been the custom stretching back to time immemorial. Who are we to question their infinite wisdom? You can still go and fight and kill and even die. But you better leave that rifle in the dirt where your enemy dropped it. Maybe you can take a picture of it and pass that down to your kids. It is almost as good.

Spoils of war? Like what? Someone's watch? Wedding ring? Teeth? Maybe some finger tips.

I thought they stopped the war trophy rifles because of their automatic functions.

Also there are a few rifles, antiques, that people have legally brought back from Afghanistan.

Very nice example! Always interesting to see something coming out of one of our more recent conflicts.

Oh yeah I forgot about some of the antique stuff out of Afghanistan. And yes, collecting stuff like gold teeth and ears has gone on for centuries. Guy my dad served with collected gold teeth and ears. Guy he worked with brought back a jar of Japanese ears.

Yes, I was referring to firearms or whatever other militaria they find. Not ghoulish items like teeth and ears or other desecration of the dead. If troops are being allowed to take antique firearms out of country, that is a good thing. Thanks for quoting Mr. 19K, otherwise I would not have seen his post since he has been on my ignore list for a long time.

                Very nice rifle OP.

That 6.5x54MS brass is probably worth it's weight in gold just as it is though....it is near impossible to find last I checked.

                  Thanks!

BTW, the brass is in-stock at Midway: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/131...her-schoenauer
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

Well, hell. I had a nice Greek MS rifle that I sold to a guy back east a couple of years back. Never got to shoot it because I never could find ammo or brass. Oh well......rifle went to a good home.

I had a 6.5x54MS rifle I doubt it was a bring back I think a small amount were imported in early 1960's. I had a hard time as well getting the ammo I did finally find some. A moderator on Gunboards wrote two books about bring back firearms.

Out of Robert Leckie's book there is a part where a Seabee is trying to buy a Japanese sword off some Marines on Peleliu during the battle. The Marines are a little upset with the guy.

I'd imagine that in the current day or ebay and gunbroker bringbacks would be totally crazy in value with all the people trying to make money off of it, so maybe it's a good thing that it's part of the past. I don't know.......
