CMP garand showed up at my door today

After watching palacio's thread when it first started it inspired me to order my first garand.(thanks bro)
Anyway fedex delivered today and I can't contain my excitement.
    Ordered on 2/5 arrived today

966*** serial number Springfield usgi wood throat and muzzle both at 1

All parts except bolt are marked SA, bolt is WRA.
Wood has tons of character, looks like the grain has started to rise giving it an interesting feel. Has stamped p kinda a double P on grip and has RIA mark on butt.

This is my first garand and I can't be happier.

    Question for those who know,
I want to get a original buttock cleaning kit and a new op rod spring. What are your go to sources for m1's

Anyway here's some pics I'll take more professional ones tomorrow.

Nice Garand and quick turnaround! Is it a field grade? I like that rack number on the hand guard.

Citruclean works good on cosmo. If you want a buttock kit, i can tell you where not to get it from. Ebay. There are tons of fake garand stuff out there, including parts, stock. You name it. Take your time, go to different milsurp website, it will come up for sale soon enough. The fake ones are worth the 20 bucks, trust me. It will break within couple minutes.

Garand gear is a good place for the spring.

Congrats on your Garand! I agree with jthesby, get the op rod spring from Garand Gear. I also bought the op rod handle protector, it has saved a couple of rifles from getting scraped up by it in the safe (I got one for my M1 carbine too). Also pick up a gas cylinder wrench before you try to remove the gas plug so you don't damage the cylinder.

Get a cheap buttock cleaning kit if you want one. They should not be used to actually clean your butt because the rod is sectional and you want a one piece rod up your butt.

Its a service grade and the barel is dated 1945.

Looking at an Orion7 op rod spring and I've found a few cleaning kits around.

I'm digging the rack number as well kinda a extra cool ninja factor.

I believe the Orion 7 and Garand Gear op rod springs are the same so get whichever is less expensive.

One Garand turned into three pretty quickly for me. And then there is the obsessive hoarding of HXP and enblocs. Welcome to the addiction. If you think you like your Garand now, wait until you shoot it. Buy a can of Lubriplate from Brownells and watch some Youtube videos on field stripping and greasing.

I have always found soap and water sufficient for cleaning by buttock.
If you want a GI cleaning rod to fit in the butt stock, CMP often has them in the E store. I just looked and they have them, M10 kit with canvas bag...
