When to touch up Cold Blue

Is there ever a time its okay to touch up a C&R?

Bluing is in great shape but there is one small area about 1/2"x1/4" that is almost white - bugs the hell out of me.

However the gun is 70 years old and all matching....feels like a sin to touch it but it is so tempting.

Plan would be to take some fine extra fine steel wool and clean the surface before heating and applying cold blue.
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)
