Enfield No4 MKI for a spin

Finally got around to shooting my new to me 1943 Faz Enfield No4 MKI I bought last year. What a sweet shooter! I love it. Built like a tank, very little recoil, the wood on this one is beautiful, very happy with it. I am sure it was re-arsenaled but a sweet shooter. I also am in love with my No 5 MKI too but this one is better to shoot overall. Stupid question, when I load ten rounds, the follower makes the first round go to the right so the last round ends up on the left side and won't feed the ramp. I remove one round, then it feeds perfectly. Is the Enfield magazine designed as a 9+1 in the chamber or as a 10 round magazine? Like I said, I am sure a naive question but have only had both Enfields for a few months and I don't know the intricacies of them yet.

Did not shoot paper, just my AR500 steel at 125 yards so no targets to show. But I am seeing why people turn into Enfield fanatics.

Beautiful rifle Capybara. You are indeed correct that Enfields are contagious, and they do multiply if left unattended-I see you haven't mentioned a No.1 Mk.3.....

Your magazine feed lips might need slght adjustment, I know that my No1 and No5 will take two full charger clips for a total of 10 rounds and feed them all.

Can't really tell from the pictures, but a 1943...does it have the 300/600 battle sight rear aperture or the adjustable ladder type?

That is a gorgeous rifle....the stock looks refinished. Pretty though for sure.

Enfield mags often require tuning if it was never done before. Search the 'net for instructions on how to do this....it isn't hard. I had to do it for my No. 4.

Cheaper Than Dirt has surplus ammo available, I suggest you buy as much as you can afford right now before it runs out. After that, never give that company another dime. They are a terrible company.

Oh and save your brass. Even if you don't reload, someone will pay good money for that brass.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am pretty sure the stock has been messed with but it was at least done tastefully. I will research the magazine tweaks. As far as the Cheaper than Dirt ammo, I already have a few hundred rounds of Prvi ammo and I am the VP of the Ventura Reloading Club, need I say more? ;-) Oh, forgot, it has the 300/600 flipper. My No 5 MKI has the adjustable ladder, I like it better but the 300/600 flipper works fine.

Wow SirToast, yours was a looker, very nice. You sold it, how could you? What are you replacing it with?

What does the left side of the receiver and wrist socket say?

You should be able to adjust (ie bend) the left feed lip out SLIGHTLY with a pair of pliers to tune it so it feeds well but doesn't let the rounds spring out. it's trial and error.

Sometimes Lee Enfields don't feed RN cartridges that are not to the same length as the Mk VII cartridge all that well. Try some pointed tip rounds and see if feeding improves.

When I get around to reloading all of the this .303 brass I have been emptying, I will probably try out two or three profile bullets, thanks for the advice SMLE-man. In looking into the magwell before I closed the bolt, this looked like it could be the problem, although they fed from the right side of the magazine fine, just not the first round from the left, but the subsequent rounds from the left side fed fine? Weird.

                        Capy,
Nice rifle wood finish on mine looks quite similar, seen them at Cabelas Reno in the $600-800 range.
Haven't shot mine for awhile, still have some surplus ammo and stripper clips from 20 years ago!
                        Thanks for the great pics!

Nice pics and beautiful Enfield Capybara. Collecting the Enfield's can be quite contagious and they do tend to multiply.

Just curious, on the first round, was it possibly catching the rim of the round next to it? The Enfield's will do that from time to time. You kind of have to maneuver the last round a little bit with your thumb when loading to make sure the case rim is outside of the one next to it. It becomes second nature after a while but can be a bit frustrating at first.

If you do bend the magazine lips, just go slow and easy because they are the most fragile part and can be ruined quite easily.

The magazine looks to not be seated completely in this photo. Give it a healthy smack on the bottom to seat it properly.

Do you ever get the feeling when you shoot your Enfield of yelling out "God save the Queen!"?
