It's the Ares Gavel ambi short throw selector. You can position it where ever you'd like to accommodate the funky throw due to the modified grip.

It's currently on safe in the photo and I flip up to fire. The left side is normal with the exception of the short throw. See my featureless thread in my siggy for details.

For me, keeping that milspec, tip of the spear "Operator" look on my working guns is worth the bullet button and neutered mags, including my new custom 10/250 blocked drum. I did not go to all the trouble of buying a full kit, multicam BDU's, and making my back yard look like the middle east just to give it away by posing there with a grip finned rifle. I could not even keep a straight (war)face while holding one of those silly contraptions.

I'd like an opinion from the hive.
Is the hammerhead grip trimmed as I have it in this picture still featureless?
I think so, but I can get my thumb around the back of it, though it's tenuous at best.

With the CTR stock, all you need is a paperclip. Actually, one paperclip can pin 3-4 stocks. No drilling, no tools.

Just insert it in the hole on the spring loaded pin that you use to adjust the stock.

Rbaker5150, the hardest part when pinning the stock is finding a roll pin that will fit flush to the stock. Just adjust the stock to where you want it. Using a drill bit that's slightly smaller than the pin, drill a hole all the way thought the stock and the bottom rib, and tap the pin in. There's some YouTube video out there on how to do it.

I've read the flowchart, but I'd like to run this by you guys. Options for owning an AR in California:

    (1) Register as AW. Can never sell/grandfather/pass down. Can have "evil" features such as collapsible stock, flash hider, pistol grip. Still must have bullet button?

    (2) Cut the balls off of the gun.

Here's mine currently. Please tell me if my understanding is correct:

    - The "flash hider" is what came with the BCM upper. Does that need to be removed? It's a regular old A2...
    - I must remove the forward pistol grip on the barrel, right?
    - I must remove the pistol grip and go with a MonsterMan or similar?
    - I must remove the collapsible stock and replace with fixed? (Which ones will still use the same buffer tube, if any?) Or, go with a Thorsden stock, which will need a new tube anyways.
    - I can have standard mag release (no bullet button)?

    Thanks, guys.

change your flash hider to a 'labeled' muzzle brake
    remove forward grip
    remove pistol grip
magpul makes a stock that locks
thordsen stock seems like the way to go though

I can't personally get my thumb through it. I tried with my smallest family member (my daughter at 7 years old) and she can get it through but it hurts her to hold it that way.

Just to be sure, I'll make the others with no gaps in that area.

    Thanks again.
just looking out. The law doesn't say it has to be your thumb that fits or if it needs to be comfortable. Better to be safe than sorry.

Does anyone know how the DOJ defines a "fixed stock"? I have a Magpul CTR. Can I drill a hole and put a bolt through the hole so the adjustment lever cannot be used? Are there really ATF agents out there watching you when you shoot in the woods and waiting to bust you?
