I just followed the instructions on Ironwood Designs website. It was red RIT dye mixed with alcohol that was soaked into the wood and then a hard clear coat over that. The wood glows. It is very neat to look at in person. The picture makes it look a little brighter than it really is. I did a write up on how I did it a while back. If you search for it you might find it.

I finally had the chance to take some toys out of the safe for pics while the wife and kids were out. Here are some toys that I've built.

Polish UF

.223 Khyber Pass (not built by me)

7.62 Khyber Pass

Hungarian AKM-63

Tactical AMD-65 front built on NDS-3 with Polish S/F

Yugo M92 UF

Saiga 12 I converted including the BHO. That BHO is a pain in the ***** to install.

That's it for now. I gotta wait for the wife and kids to leave again for more pics. Thanks.============================

How did you do that,, did you just send all the parts to be chromed,, that would be a cool Conversational Piece!Comment

I've always gone to Rick, username rick-16 on the AK forums. He's done a couple of fake cans for me and I've been very please with each one. His prices are also very reasonable compared to DPH and other vendors. I've had a couple of PBS fake cans done in the past, but decided to go with something simple with this one. I'm happy with it. Thanks for the compliments. Here's a link to where you could find Rick: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47403. Hope it helps. Let me know if you can't get a hold of him via PM.

[quote=supermario;2361178]I forget now who I sent it to, but I could find the receipt and get back to you. Yes, I sent the final build. I opted out of having the bolt chromed, though for obvious headspacing reasons. I did sandblast the bolt to give it a matt chrom look, though. Thanks for the compliments!============================

That's the original forend. The vents and rails were installed by me. Also note the upper handguard. That upper HG was a custom HG made by a gentleman on the S12 forum. It really helps prevent burns from the barrel after a long shooting session. Thanks for the compliments!============================

Wow marxdspot, nice Kalashnikov collection. Also, thank you for the advice and parts to get my Romanian Krinkov going. And finally, thanks for inspiring me to add an AMD-65 to my collection. Because of this:

That's one of the joys of being able to build on your own...the looks and functions of your rifle is only limited to your imagination and desire.
You're very welcome, 69mach1. Let me know if I could be of further assistance. Best of luck with your projects!
