I know most of you guys are saying "yeah right, I've heard that one before" but with all of these new CA bs laws it's not as fun (for a lack of words) anymore. Well here she is..still need to take her out for a function test so hopefully all goes well.

I really like the looks of this. Your last build just gave me inspiration for my first build. I've been planning a side charge and this good sir has got me motivated. I was curious what upper you used? Other specs please.

It's an ar stoner upper from midway. Got an email that it was $40 off ($240 to $200) so thought it wasn't a bad deal vs an upper, ambi charging handle, and complete bcg. Here's my parts list

Thank you Aj..I have yet to shoot it but can only guess it will be a soft shooter due to the mid lengtg gas system and adjustable GB. I'll report back hopefully by the end of this week. Crazy week schedule so I barely have time to shoot. Good luck with your build and let us know how it turns out!!

So I was able to finally take her out yesterday for a function test and sight in the irons. Upper ran fine with no hiccups but I did swap out the ejector spring from the start (read reviews that this was a problem). I had one light primer strike but that may be my jp yellow springs or my own reloads, blaming my reloads because I've ran yellow springs with no problems on my other builds. I did get 1 or 2 brass to the cheek (southpaw shooter) so I may turn up the gas a bit, brass is ejecting at 4-5o'clock (bolt cycles and still locks back). Not sure why I caught a few to the face, maybe no brass deflector? Never had this problem with a normal upper. All in all, it's a fun build and I love how light and simple it is, vg6 wasn't that bad at all (subjective) and I give to the ones that are shooting 100yrds with just irons. I only sighted it in at 50yrds and that was tough!!!

How do you like the fixed sights? I've been going back and forth between a red dot and build or just getting fixed sights. Sounds promising from what you have reported. I used to work with guys and when ever they would sight they would sight in at 50yrds. They would shoot 100yrds + on irons. I could barely do 100yrds. Takes a trained eye. Glad to hear it's running well. Tax money is the many thing slowing my build but it just gives me more time to research and learn.

Fixed sights is something to get use to if you don't train with them normally which I don't thus being the reason for irons on this build. All of my builds are either red dots or some type of magnification. I wanted to keep weight down, probably could of gone with an Halosun or aimpoints or some light RD setup but wanted to keep this simple as possible, went with the KISS rule. I agree that it takes a trained eye to shoot 100+ yards with just irons, hard as a mofo!! Especially for someone that is nearsighted anc astigmatism. All good, like all things..practice, practice, practice..then train even harder.

Something to consider is to run absolute or 1/3 co witness with irons and RD, that's if you're into that setup. Obviously more costly but you can always get your irons first and train with those until your proficient then later down the line throw in a RD. If you do that then I would get flip up rear/front or just flip up rear and fixed front.

Haha yeah it "was". Another member had seen it on another thread and told me but now it's corrected. It was corrected before I took it out to shoot.
