    AR15 adding front flip sights

I recently purchased my first AR15 (Del Ton Sport), love shooting it.
I've added a quad rail, and like how easy it is to go from Iron sights to red dot to a scope. Currently I have the standard front sight post, which can get in the way of a scope. I have been thinking of switching to a front flip sight. However, it looks like I need to add a gas block. So, I have seen some flip sights with the gas black attached and some separate.
First off, is it a bad idea to go with a front flip sight, and if not any suggestions on how to proceed?
Thanks and sorry if this topic has already been discussed, I couldn't find the thread.

The A2 front sight won't obstruct the field of view in the scope, so you can just leave it as is and not worry about it.

As far as flip up front, I prefer to use a low profile gas block the fits underneath the handguard, use a longer handguard (e.g. 13" or 15" on a mid-length 16"), and put the sight on the top rail of the handguard.

Of course, it sounds like you already got a handguard that doesn't meet the gas port, so for the extra sight radius, you'll just get a gas block with a Picatinny rail on it for the front flip up.

I replaced mine with this: Yankee Hill Machine Front Sight Tower
They have a few options if you want a rail, bayonet lug, or sling swivel.

First off, if your going to be mounting the front sight off of a rail that's not a good idea.

If your going to buy a dedicated sight flip gas block or one with a pic rail that's better. But with pic rails on gas blocks they vary in size so that's a factor.

Also if you have a standard front post your scope will shadow it out at 1.5x and see basically right through it at 3x. Which I'm assuming you didn't know till now cause your a red dot shooter, but now you do

So before you go buying s ton of gear and reconfigure your upper. Try your scope and rigs out and see if it has clearance and test for your self if it passes right theough the front sight.

I was about to do the same thing till I scoped one of my standard AR's. I was baffled for about an hour until I realized what had happened and how my front sight dissapeared.

But if you want to reconfigure antways, I say run the block with sight already built in. Buying a seperate flip sight can lead to a bunch of other measurements and issues in it self.

          GL with your endeavor.

As long as the handguard has good anti-rotation, this is the best place to mount a flip up front sight, especially with regards to sight radius.

Okay, thanks everyone for the input. I'm heading out tomorrow to shoot, so I'll put the scope on and see if the "shadowing" is a distraction. The problem with the AR is that there are too many fun accessories, and configurations.
I really appreciate the input, I might still get the Yankee flip sight, but later on.
