    Lancaster AKs

    Hey gang,

A few years ago I bought a "Russian red" Lancaster AK that I've only shoot 100 rounds through. Decent gun it seems but now with the upcoming upgrades (ALG AK trigger and Magpul stocks and hand guards) I want to get this thing out there more.

I have tried to initially install the Magpul AK grip but it doesn't seem to fit. Anybody with a Lancaster have any issues? Fitment issues?

    Thanks guys.

    What doesn't fit?

      Lancaster AKs

So I just went back to the rifle after a year or more just sitting in my safe and I tried to install the grip again.

It seems like the problem is the screw. It won't screw all the way in. I tired cleaning most of the thread locker off but still won't work. Maybe the screw is out of spec? Anyone have the exact screw specs for it? Maybe I'll just buy one at the local hardware store...

Your grip is likely cross threaded. Get a new one

I never understood why Magpul insists on the large glob of dried threadlocker they put on their screws.
Just add "use of blue loctite required" in the instructions.

How long is your grip screw? Is it possible that you're using a long length grip screw for use with "classical" ak grips, vs the short screw used by magpul and other aftermarket grips? Easy way to tell is one is about 1.5 inches and one Is about 6", lol.

He is having an issue with the magpul screw. I have found that some demilled kits (romy) had cross threaded grip nuts.

I've installed a total of 3 Magpul AK Grips on 3, GP-1975 Romanian Models I have. All went on without a hitch. The first thing I did was to wire brush all of the thread locker off. It will just cause you problems, as you have demonstrated with your install. I then cleaned the screw completely. After that I greased both the screw, as well as the inside of the nut it screws into. I used a Q-Tip to make sure the grease was covering all of the internal threads of the nut.

All 3 went in without a hitch. There is no reason to have any type of thread locker on this part. I don't understand why Magpul does this? And I don't understand if their so insistent on doing it, why they don't make sure the first 3 or 4 threads are clean to allow you to start the screw without any danger of cross threading it? It's just dumb. If you snug it up good and tight it won't come loose. And even if it does, it takes a minute to retighten it. I've never seen one come loose again after being retightened.

Also, I had only one of my Magpul AK grips come with a Star Washer. This part will prevent the screw from coming loose. You can pick these up a Home Depot as well, if yours doesn't come with one. They're just a few cents each. Don't install your grip without one.

If you don't have a power wire brush on a bench grinder, simply go to Home Depot or Ace Hardware with the screw, and buy one the same length and thread type. They even have them in Stainless with a hex head. Anything is better than that thread locker encrusted, piece of crap Magpul supplies you with.
If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any?
