Can Someone Clarify if this is Romanian or Not?

Ive done a lot of googling, but cant get a concrete answer on this. The only thing I confirmed is Century Arms has something to do with it?

I have a semi automatic rifle (thats why Im using this forum section, advise if there's a better location), but on the side it says "romarm/cugir Romania CAI Georgia, VT"

Is "Georgia, VT" as in, Vermont, USA? How is that Romanian then?? Just a part of it is?

    Thanks

Century Arms International is located in Georgia, VT. They import the rifles from the Cugir factory in Romania and modify them to comply with US regulations.

          Not quite.
WASR's come fully assembled, just need the mag well milled out and the 922rwork done. Otherwise its all Romanian.

There has been a "sporting purpose" requirement for imported guns since the gun control act of 1968, and the rules for what meets the "sporting purpose" criteria have changed over the years.

Your WASR would have been imported in a configuration similar to this

Having any of the following features makes a rifle not importable "folding/telescoping stocks, separate pistol grips, ability to accept a bayonet, flash suppressors, bipods, grenade launchers, and night sights."

Later it was decided that the ability to accept double stack magazines would also make a firearm fail the "sporting purposes" test.

To get around this the firearm is built overseas in a configuration that meets the sporting purpose test (single stack magazine, thumbhole stock, etc), then legally modified once it reaches the US to a configuration that would be non-importable, like milling out the magazine cutout to accept AK mags and swapping the furniture, plus swapping parts so that the finished gun has enough US manufactured components to comply with 922r.

Sounds like you most likely have a WASR or SAR series rifle.

The receivers are built from the get go at the factory to be semi auto.
These are built with commercial intentions, although apparently Ugandan contractors have used WASRs in Iraq ()

Interesting. So its actually imported in a more limited version. Then when it reaches the USA they make it less limited? lol I thought it would of been the other way around.

....btw Mine actually came with a bayonet and has the ability to put it on. But I guess all the other stuff you mentioned still applies.

They are made by Romarm Cugir in Romania as a complete "sporting purpose" semi-auto rifle.
They are then imported by Century Arms International (CAI) in Georgia, VT.
CAI then modifies them with US made parts in order to legally take them out of their "sporting purpose" configuration.

                  FYI.
Bayonet lug is a prohibited feature on an imported semi-auto rifle, CAI welds the bayonet lug on during their process of configuring it to look like a traditional AK style rifle.
