AR .204 target

Today's 10 shot group at 100 yards with my .204 AR.



Spec's Fab10 lower, upper from J&T, Douglas 20" 1/12 twist varmit contour barrel, free float tube, and Weaver grand slam 6-20x scope.

The one flyer was my 3rd shot.

Looked at Accuray System but don't know how their price compares to other. ($900 is what they are asking)

Two or three years ago I bought a complete .223 upper from J&T distributing I decided to build it out to .204 so all I did was swap the barrel.

You can find complete uppers for around 100 dollars, barrel, gas tube, and gas block should run around 450.00 floating hand stock run in 60 - 200 range depending on what you want.

My barrel came from Compass Lake Engineering took them about 4 weeks to deliver it.

You can build a good .204 upper for less then 650 dollars depending on what you want.

I have always been partial to the 5MM cartidge. I own (3) 5 mm rem. mags. The introduction of the 204 has made 5mm components more available. I will probrably convert one rifle over to centerfire to start reloading this round. Tell me does wind affect the bullets at all? What weight are you shooting?

Havn't shot in high winds so I couldn't tell you how the wind effects the bullet. I shoot .40gr Hornady V-MAX out of the AR and Savage and I'm very happy with the performance.

The 5mm rem came with 38 gr hollow points. I think they will do nicely. Nice shooting and thanks for the info.

How did the 10mm upper work? Am interested in what mag you are using.

Anyways, enlighten me on the .204 round. I'm more of a military round guy, don't know much on these "varmit" rounds.

Didn't have a chance to shoot the 10mm as I didn't have a lower to put it on.

The .204 is a necked down .223 with a sharper angle on the neck. The 40gr bullets leave the barrel at 3900fps while the 32gr are moving at 4225fps and have alot less wear on the chamber/barrel then the 22-250.

The .204 does wonders on squirrel's, I taged one with my Savage Model 12 at about 50 yards with a 40gr and we found the guts about 6" behind the gritter. The guys I went hunting with saw this and are now looking at buying .204 rifles.

Walking around with a 10lbs Savage Model 12 bolt action wasn't all that fun, so I decided I would build a .204 AR for a walking around gun and leave the bolt action for shooting in one spot.
