    IWI Tavor (Sorry no pics)

First let me apologize for not taking any pictures. My Dad and I took his IWI Tavor to the Oroville Open Range today to shoot it for the first time. Really enjoyed it. Like any time you shoot something new there are some quirks to it, especially the bullet button on it, but we had a great time. It shot great, even with just the built in fold up irons. No jams. Really liked it.

The trigger pull is on the heavy side. But when actually shooting it (10-25-50 yards) it was not a problem at all. Recoil was a complete non-issue. It is a tad awkwardly balanced with a lot of weight in the rear. But you adjust to that pretty darn quickly.

    In short. I like it.

If they make a .308 version, I place an order right now online.

I don't know. While you don't feel any recoil in your shoulder you do feel a little in your cheek bone. In a bull pup the chamber is right next to your face. In 5.56 it's not a big deal. I'm betting. 308 would hurt.

I wish it were mine. But at least I know pops will let shoot it any time I com

I think .300 blackout was the next in line. Various unconfirmed rumors for 308 though. However for those who already own tavors I believe we only need to purchase the kit which includes bolt and carrier, barrel , magazine adapter, and use the same chassis.

This is already the case for the 9mm kit and there are test tavor 300 blackout YouTube videos with an unmodified chassis.

Still haven't heard much about the 308 version other than unconfirmed articles all over Google.

My dad just ordered the Mako red dot for it. Wanted to put Israeli optics on it. Should be pretty cool when done. I'm still an Ar guy. But with time and practice I could easily see becoming proficient with the TAVOR...and falling in love with it along the way. It's a very different rifle but in a fun and exciting way.

I heard rumors of a .308 version but considering the maker and the environment they live in, the .308 version would not be too practical so I don't know how much of a reality it will be. Would be neat though...

Glad you liked it, they're a great rifle. You can do the little trigger mod to lighten the pull by removing the second spring:

Or you can talk your dad into getting the Geissele Super Sabra or Shooting Sight Tav-D triggers

Big difference when running one of these triggers in the Tavor.

The length of pull is probably too short for you, this is very common in shotguns. I'm guess you're taller than you dad, and most likely a lot taller than an average Israeli?

I would go featureless if I were your Dad. An AR looks like carp with a grip wrap, but on a Tavor it looks like it belongs. I imagine your Dad has a whole lotta pre-ban mags that he'd love to use with no BB. If he gets a grip wrap, make sure he also buys the Galloway Precision Tavor 45 Degree Double Ended Safety.

Get one of the 3 aftermarket triggers. The one spring removal doesn't do much at all in my experience.

                        Tavor

I have the Meprolight (Israeli army issue), Geisele trigger and 9 mm kit. The Geisele is wonderful improvement. The 9 mm conversion took a little over 30 minutes the first time, with the aid of a youtube video. It will be faster the next time I do a conversion. FYI, it likes heavier 5.56, i.e., 75 g weight. It's more accurate, capable of .8 MOA. Flawless after about 300 rounds. I keep telling me that after getting this guy, there's no need to get another tactical rifle. And I keep telling myself that. Again and again.

I handled one in a local shop. Seemed like a well made rifle. Just a bit tiny for my large framed body though.

It's not my rifle, it's my father's. So it's not like I can just pull it out of the safe and take a few snap shots.

So I'll just have to drool over yours.
