Reality check here:
Actually, that is not all that bad a price in today's market. I have built a few retro Ar's and a 20" pencil barrel with the front sight mounted is going to $190+ shipping all day. That leaves the cost of a kit at $400. Which is a decent price in today's market.
I have seen the prices of these kits go from $300 last spring to $500 at some vendors in just a few months as the supplies dry up. The prices on original Colt 20" pencil barrels is hovering around $250 to $350+ depending on condition of the bore and outside finish, so finding a complete kit with a genuine Colt barrel for under six bills is going to be like finding a Unicorn in your back yard.
To the poster that wanted to put a set of A2 sights on one. If you want to do that, I have a like new A2 upper with GI sights that I would be willing to trade you straight across for a decent A1 upper with sights.

Finally got a chance to unpack and inspect.
