    Best value AR15 components

If a guy were to build an AR15 for civilian use there is no reason to pay for a machine gun barrel. Who do you guys think is the "best value" manufacturer in **components** for a civilian / recreation / SD use AR15?
ie best value for barrel / uppers / lowers / optics...etc. I appreciate the knowledge here thanks for the education.

No single manufacturer prolly fits the bill. There are tons of options. Maybe a budget JSE or PSA upper and build your own OLL lower off of any of the standard available lowers

Trying to learn about all parts. Just checked PSA they do sell out fast they have some clearance sale on barrels, I can see now why building one can get some really good value, just have to learn the system and where the value can be had and where to buy. A guy can get a great barrel for $150-$200. Look at this deal http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...upperpper.html

It really depends on the quality you want to get. You can get high quality pencil-profile CHF chrome-lined barrel which will heat up slower than a regular "commercial" barrel. So, you get a lighter configuration that will shoot better and last longer than (e.g.) S&W-15 or any other low-cost budget model. Should you pay more for it? It's up to you.

why would a pencil-profile CHF chrome-lined barrel heat up slower than a regular "commercial" barrel?

CHF has been traditionally used for machine gun barrels due to more dense structure and better performance when heated.

I've had really good results using "cheap" del ton and DPMS barrels. As far as upper/lower receivers, if we are talking mil spec forged models, they're pretty much all the same.

If you can order and wait like 3-4 weeks psa is what you need. Ive had uppers in a few configurations from them. My CHF 20 inch FN barrel upper with 15 inch free float, bcg and charging handle for 550 was an excellent upper that shot like a lazer. Absolutely 100% reliable without question. Regret grtting rid of it. My 16 inch "premium" (FN barrel that is chromoly, not CHF) is also an excellent upper. Came with the 12 inch miswest industries gen 2 super slim free float. I love that piece. It was 379 without bcg. Lemme look at some deals for ya.

BCM is also an excellent company to go with. Will run more than psa generally but is also quality and ships faster. If they are still running the free bcg with any complete upper that is an excellent value that makes the extra price totally worth it.

Okay so this is an awesome upper receiver for a first time r to a pro- no point to buy basic when youll upgrafe eventually.

it has their cold hammer forged stainless steel barrel which are said to be very accurate and durable. Those barrels alone can go for as much as 300$.Has the very nice midwest industries keymod rail installed (175-200$ value). Add a bcg and charging handle for another 120$ or so and that is an upper with an awesome price to quality value. IMO boutique stuff wont do any better, or last any longer than this setup. If i was in the market for an upper around 600-650 right now complete this would be it. Throw a muzzle brake on for super flat shooting, slap a complete lower on and you will have a sweet rig.

Yeah if you know youll never need a rail get that. I will say that just cuz you dont plan to use lights and lazers lol that a rail isnt a good idea, especially a slim one where you can add rails if needed. The ergonomics of a longer, slim rail vs plastic m4 handguards is definitely an upgrade and you wont have the hassle of changing it later. To each their own. Good luck with it.

Not to thread hi-jack, but I have a newbie question, when buy an AR in parts as mention in this thread, do any of the parts have to be sent to an FFL (i.e. lowers)? I'm in CA.

                          TIA

Yes, a lower is considered a firearm. It must be shipped to and transferred by an FFL. If you can, mill your own 80% lower.
