    LaRue RAT stock rattle

Bought on one of the black friday sales and was excited since I know the quality of other LaRue products..

Well, the stock looks great and I liked the feel.. but when I put it on my mil buffer tube (PSA) the stock rattles like crazy.. I mean it's looser than my $15 el cheapo CAR stock.

Any way to tighten it up? I'm sure I could use some Compton Engineering but for a stock the retails over $100 that seems silly.

If not I will stick it on my S&W 15/22 and run a CTR.. which would be a shame.

Couple layers of tape on top of the buffer tube. Yes, it'll stay in place without an issue unless you're sitting in the living room watching TV jerking it off all day.

Yes, it's a $100 stock, but it also needs to fit buffer tubes produced by more than one company. Assuming this isn't a matter of commercial vs. mil-spec buffer tube sizes, it's unreasonable to expect stocks to fit perfectly. You'd end up seeing "I can't fit the $100 stock on my buffer tube" instead.

The rat stock Is a great stock. Try a bcm buffer tube and you can get a better fit.

Even milspec tubes vary ever so slightly in outer diameter; like suggested, another manufacturer extension tube might be a viable option. For what it's worth, "stock rattle" is completely normal in the majority of stocks, expensive or otherwise, and will not affect the performance of your rifle.

You can also try putting several coats of black spray paint/alumihide on your PSA extension tube to increase the outer diameter.

Indeed, swapping the buffer tube may resolve it... but it also might not. The whole magpul friction lock thing was a solution looking for a problem(and I have an ACS with the same "friction lock").

You could also have the opposite issue, such as the MFT minimalist being notorious for being so tight the thing barely fits and quick adjustments being difficult to make since it's so easy to overshoot the notch while you're trying to force it into another position. Fortunately that doesn't matter much since it'll eventually get used in a featureless build, but out of the box the thing is crap for being adjustable.

I like how Magpul integrated a new double leaf spring style friction system on the inside of the stock in the MOE-SL series

I had one for about 10 minutes.. rattled like a piece of crap, went back to VLTOR for the fit I like.

LaRue has made claims that there is no need for a friction lock because their stock fits so well.
sorry about the sloppy fit OP, that's frustrating.

I have several of those stocks and all of them fit perfectly. It's the best fit I've found so far and I love the 5.6 oz weight. I paid $37 for them.

Some are nosier than others. There are variances in fit. I happen to like the Socom ones.

Tape on buffer tube, buying a diff one is no guarantee the next buffer tube will fit better

I just expected more.. I mean, it's a really nice stock, and a little play is normal, but this was a lot and surprising in a stock that MSRPs so high

The tape idea is a good one.. not sure I could layer enough paint for it to matter.

a friction device of some kind would have been nice. I might try it on a few of my different brands of buffer tubes to see if it's any better

                            Thanks for ideas..

It took a few years but I am so over worrying about wobbly stocks and loose fitting uppers. I am more annoyed by tight stocks and uppers that need the takedown pins drifted out with a punch.
