OK, This versus That!! AR vs Precision platform

I really want to build a couple more rifles but they are both different ends of the spectrum. Its either going to stick to the AR family now that i'm in the clan, or go to a "true" precision shooters rifle such as a remm. 700 or savage 10fp. I was looking at a RRA stainless varmint barrel with optics on a harris bipod, and a CTR stock. 10 round in .308 if they make it. I know plenty of others who do make it so it would be no problem to find the barrel. Thats one option. Or to go the other route altogether and try to find somewhat of a budget precision shooter that will be benched or lying prone most of the time anyway with a bipod. I definitely want this gun to be a .308 for really getting out there and touch somebody if I needed it to. These I've heard that you can get out to 1k yards relatively easy. What do you guys have and what do you guys think that I should have??? I'm trying to stick this build close to a thousand and then the optics would be 2nd.

Um, getting to 1000 yards is not easy. It is a challenge but it is a lot of fun and feels good when you hit the target.

That being said a proper handload or Federal gold metal match will make it to 1000. I personally would suggest a 700. Probably a Remington 700 5R. You can get a complete gun (minus optic) for about $1000 if you look hard enough (PM Jicko). You will want to spend at least another grand on a quality optic to get to 1000.

In my case, Its gonna be 800 yard for a while. AR in .308 24" SS barrel shooting match grade gonna be able to hit an 800 yard plate with optics?? I'm just going back and forth and don't know what I want to dump cash into right now.

You should be able to as long as the nut behind the rifle can do it. I saw PolishMike and his buddy (forget his name, sorry) hit 1000 yards with an AR10 based rifle, I believe it was a 24" barrel. I would still suggest a bolt gun since you have an AR already, do something different

What shooting range are you going to be at?

            Was it this one?:

It will make hits at 1000, but it's not nearly as consistent as my Savage 10FP. Definitely not as consistent as your Remington either, although not many factory guns are.

For precision shooting out to 1000, I think bolt guns are still the way to go. For laying down a lot of lead at 800, the AR-10 platform is pretty nice to have though.

Given the pending results of the upcoming election, it might be wise to get all your semi auto's purchased now.......

                True. Stockpiling takes time though

stockpiling does take time! The election does not look favorable for gun owners. Hence I put a purchase for a Noveske N6 Receiver today =)

If the Dem's do win, the war will stop at some point and surplus ammo would be dirt cheap again. But then you won't be able to buy any new semi toys. It's a double edge sword.
