any 338 LM shooters near or in the high desert?

    hello

i have been looking at buying a new rifle and i have owned bigger caliber rifles in the past and now im ready for a 338 LM rifle. the reason why i am asking if there is anyone shooting in my area is because i was thinking maybe we could meet up and we could do some shooting ( i have never shot a 338 LM ). I would pay for the ammo i use and you could also shoot my guns. i would also like to learn how to reload 338 LM but that can wait for now.

EDIT: still looking for someone with a 338 lapua near the high desert so we can get together and do some shooting

Don't wait too long. Factory ammo is (at the cheapest) about $5.00/round right now.

Reloading takes that cost down to $1 per trigger squeeze.

Getting my .338LM built right now so really can't offer to have you shoot it.

Do you not know how to reload? Or were you just looking for a "recipe" for the /338LM?

If you have at least 1 in 10 twist and want to go the distance then go with the 300 grainers. With 300 grainers I use 87 grains of RL 25 with CCI 250 primers (Fed 215 are preferred but I could not find any at the time), but start a little lower, as some rifles get sticky bolts with 87. Black Hills does not use Lapua brass, they use Norma instead which is not anywhere as good as Lapua and has had split necks after two loadings in some cases.

As to other recipes including 250 grainers:

I use 88 grains of H-4831SC, Federal 215M primers (I just found another 3000 on sale at a online seller (I bought all he had), Lapua brass, SMK 250 grainers (my TRG-42 doesn't have fast enough twist to shoot the 300 grainers; when I shoot this barrel out, I will have it rebarreled with a faster barrel).

False. I have a box of Black Hills 338 LM on my safe, that has LAPUA brass. It was about $110 shipped. I think I got it from Midway.

You can also get 250 gr factory LAPUA ammo from Graf & Sons for about $95.

Also, I shot my AR30 for the first time last weekend. I must say, it's a completely different experience than shooting a .308 bolt action, and obviously a .223 AR15 in any configuration.

I will tell you this: There was hardly any recoil, but wow my ears rang! Next time I'll use both plugs and earmuffs.

Well, maybe they switch back and forth, because the two boxes that I've bought from them had Norma brass.

Interesting. Well I got mine from Midway if it helps! Plus its 300 gr sierra match king bullets.

$110 didn't seem bad at all for that combo. Since I'll just reload the brass anyway. Ends up costing me about 3 bucks a pull since I'll reload the brass, and that woulda cost $2 anyway.

But yeah, if it had Norma brass, i would have gotten another 20 rds of the 250gr factory LAPUA ammo.

Got mine from Midway as well, but it was at least a year ago. They were also 300 grainers and I got them on sale for around $86/20. I still have a box of 20 left in case my friends want to shoot it, for myself I prefer to roll my own.
