    AR15 buffer question

    I got a Colt carbine upper group new at a smokin' hot price and I plan to put it on my A2 lower to swap between the 20" HB and the 16" lightweight barrel. Are the buffers needed for a 20" barrel and 16" barrel the same? The lower will keep the same fixed A2 stock no matter the upper group.

    Not to crow but the complete Colt upper with folding rear sight and bolt group came in at a lower price than all the off brands advertised on the internet. Can't wait to try it out!

    Shouldn't make a difference.

      Thanks - I didn't know if the shorter gas tube caused a faster bolt cycle needing a heavier buffer.

        You're using a fixed A2 stock, which has a "rifle buffer" that is already heavier than a "carbine buffer."

        Rifle buffer = ~5.2oz
        Carbine = ~3.0oz

        You're all set.

          Right. The rifle buffer is even heavier than a H2 carbine buffer.
          OP It should be a smooth shooting gun.
          Thats how I run my primary AR, 16 inch carbine gas with rifle recoil system.

          Its fine to mix any gas length with any recoil system.
          But never mix recoil system parts. As in a carbine buffer in a rifle buffer tube. etc

            Thanks again. My M16 experience was all rifle length stuff. The only short length AR types that I saw was the firing port weapon which was a system all of its own.

              Same buffer, as long as you are using a carbine buffer tube. If you use a rifle tube (longer), you need a rifle buffer spring and buffer... or a spacer to make up for the difference in buffer tube length.
