    Early dros?

I am going on a trip, 102408, I want to buy a gsg 5 from dds ranch, but i have the 10 day wait, is it legal to have dd's ranch call ahead to my ffl and start the dros b4 they get the gun?

      Depends on your FFL.

Some that I know will do that for rifles, as long as they know the rifle has shipped and will be in their possession before the 10 days is up.

They can't/wont do this for handguns as they have to enter the serial number at the time that the DROS is submitted and have to visually make sure it's correct.

Just ask your usual FFL if they do this or not.

Some FFL's will start the DROS before rifle is in hand as it does not need a serial number of the rifle.
        OR
Buy the rifle and have it shipped to your FFL. When you get back from vacation go down and start the DROS.

There are two issues here that are unclear from your question.

-Whether you will be present to do the DROS.

Most FFLs won't start a DROS without the customer present in person. I don't know the legality of this and many FFLs themselves are unaware and chose not to do so for potentially legal reasons. I suspect the DOJ frowns upon FFLs who do this. Wes/Ten percent firearms wrote a long post about this recently. A search will help you with that. I don't have the link.

-Whether they will start a DROS without having the gun in possession, but with you present.

More FFLs will do this and this is legal. Some may not. Talk to the FFLs involved. That is the only way you will know.
