Problem with new AR308 Build- Charging Handle Bottoms Out

The charging handle won't go all the way to the rear. It bottoms out. It will not go past the bolt catch. The buffer tube is a standard AR15 carbine tube. Buffer and spring are for LR308 builds. Any ideas?

The tungsten buffer/spring kit I got said it was made for 308s with collapsible stocks.

    Heres a photo

The top buffer/spring is out of an AR15 carbine setup
The bottom one was a kit for a 308 .

Are you using a carbine tube with a rifle length buffer ?
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Probably this. Take a pic of both OP. You're probably using a rifle length (longer) buffer.

If not something is out of spec.

Are you using an Armalite buffer? The Armalite style 308 carbine buffers and tubes are longer than DPMS pattern parts. They are approximately 3/4" longer, with the buffer being essentially the same length as a standard AR-15 carbine buffer. A longer Armalite or standard AR-15 carbine buffer will act exactly as you describe when using a standard length carbine buffer tube with a 308 BCG.

          Photo taken. See original post

I think the spring is not for a 308. Its is 10/3-8" long with 38 coils. Hopefully the seller gives me a new one

Looks like a shorter DPMS 308 buffer, so it should be GTG. I notice you don't have a castle nut on the buffer tube. How far is it threaded into the receiver?

I didnt put a castle nut in the photo. Its screwed in enough to hold the buffer spring pin.

I short, I think the spring isn't correct. According to cheaperthandirt. The lr308 spring is longer but less coils.

I am using this spring and buffer it has 29 coils. No issues with my Lr308.

Does the charging handle and bolt go back far enough without the buffer and spring in the tube?

Yea. Thanks for the input. That really makes me believe that I got the wrong spring. CTD says their should be 27 coils. Yours has 29. Pretty close. The one I got has 35 coils

Yes! It also goes far back enough with bolt and buffer combo (minus the spring). So it must be the spring!

I think I had the same problem with mine. When I switched from the commercial buffer tube to mil spec. Put the commercial tube back on problem gone.

                          I tried both. Same results

try it without the tube you pictures suggest that your carrier is not going into the upper all the way which would make me think you are using an ar-15 charging handle

i would take the upper off and with the spring and buffer in shove in a dowel like broomhandle let it bottom out mark and measure it
