DPMS Lr308 pattern 20" barrel? What do you use?

Im building one of my 2 CMMG Lr308 lowers into a precision semi auto. When I say precision, I mean 1 MOA. I will be using a Mark 6 3-18x on my build. I have purchased all my parts except the barrel. My price limit is $400.00.

What are you guys running? What kind of accuracy and reliability are you getting?

    Some choices are:

    Rainier arms
    Mega
    Fulton M110
    Black Hole Weaponry

numrich has 308 barrels in various sizes for about 120 bucks.

Heck of a deal for a pretty darned good barrel.

I believe ARperformance is also making or soon to be making 308 barrels. they usually run about 200-300 bucks

            18.

I was set on 20" before I began my build, but realized the FPS gained with most factory ammo and fast burning powders the FPS gain was only around 60 FPS at the muzzle for the extra 2". Where you lose about 120 going from 18 to 16" so a total of about 200 +/- from 20 to 16..

The 18 was the best of both worlds IMO. Decent FPS, with slight mobility. That said here is my 20" 700 and my 18" LR308.. Same exact OAL.

I think 18 looks cleaner asthetics wise, my buddies 16 is awesome looking, but again I couldn't justify the major loss of FPS going to 16". He also built his for short work where mine was more a LR >1k yard type build.

Also my barrel is a Mega, performance is good. As promised via mega. But some guys have sent a few barrels back due to some slight spec issues. I personally think my barrel may be slightly out of spec as well if you saw my JD rant thread. I think the barrel was the cause, even tho JD blamed he BCG and "fixed" it replacing the BCG. My suspicion is mega QC issues. So tho it's performed, and works and looks great. I have to bite my tongue on reccomending it due to my suspicions.

I ended up getting the DPMS Lite hunter barrel, AP4 barrel and a Upper for $348.00 shipped tonight. The reviews are good on the lite hunter 20" barrels. The AP4 is for my extra CMMG lower I was going to sell. I will be cutting it down to 14.5 and installing a brake of some sorts pinned for 16.1".

I use a 20" MEGA barrel on my build. I haven't really shot it other than to zero my scope but ran into some ammo issues before I could really see how accurate it is.

I see some issues with mega. If I swap my hunter barrel out I think I'll go with either Rainer or a black hole again.

Black hole makes an awesome product.
"Then there are sheepdogs. The sheepdogs are the bastions of safety. The sheepdog lives solely to protect the flock and confront the wolf. They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."

I'll post a range report down the road a month or 2. Building 2 lr308s and a AR pistol is expensive.

                            +1.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Rainer's barrels made by Mega?

In other words they are just blanks that Mega chambers, contours and crowns to Rainer's "specification".

Also, I will never buy a Black Hole Weaponry barrel again. I was one of the ones that bought a barrel with jacked up rifling. I bought the 18" 1/11 twist with polygonal three rifling via Rainer Arms.

                              What a joke that was!
