    Parkerizing service in/near Sacramento?

Anyone know where I can get a barrel parkerized in or oround Sac.? I called both gunsmiths in the phone book. One quoted me $150 which sounds way too high. The other one in Roseville will not touch any AR parts, even a legal length stripped barrel. Thanks.

I wish I could help with the name of someone to park for you, but if Duracoat is an option I would suggest you give it a try before you spend the money on someone else to do it.

I was hesitant to do it myself until I was quoted $250 to have someone Duracoat my 10/22 receiver and barrel. So instead I spent the $50 on Lauer's starter kit and did it myself. It turned out quite nice and was very easy to do. It is all about the preparation... Make sure the surface is clean and grease free.

I converted a large cardboard box into a mini paint booth by cutting a large hole out of the back and taping a 22"X24" furnace filter to it then taping a 22" box fan to that. Worked excellent! If i can find some pics of the results I'll post them.

You could do it yourself if you can find a large enough stainless container to house your barrel. My dad and I park'd a 1911 this year. Just plug the ends of the barrel with a wooden dowel. you have to heat the solution to almost boiling and then put the parts in, once it stops bubbling the part is done, then you rinse with the included neutralizer and your done. you can get park solution from www.midwayusa.com

Sierra Arms Corp in Modesto does zinc phosphate and magnesium phosphate parkerizing. They also do Duracote. There are several samples in the store of the finishes available. Especially with duracote, it's easy to get stencil lines that kinda stand out. The painter there has eliminated this negative effect commonly found on camoflage finishes. You just need to find a pattern you like- and it can be reproduced on your gun. They did 2 guns in particular with camo from WWII Germany- one from a tank and the other was a luftvaffe scheme- way cool.

I can handle all your refinishing needs if you are willing to ship (cheaper than driving across town now.)

I got it for a regular AK PG and it's on a standard romanian bakelite I think PG... What should I do? I kept the mag lock installed just in case this would happen...

GUN KOTE works well too, i need a jamb gun though, my airbrush just didnt hold enough material to get the job done, and a full size spray gun is quite large. if i did something again i would go with the semi-flat finish, the flat is really flat. and i glass beaded the aluminum i was finishing so it is rough and flat. seems really tough though, b-12 chemtool does no harm.

Thanks fellas! A member here pm'd me & I think i'm going to send it to him. I am actually thinking about building my own tanks & learning how to do it myself. Maybe it'll turn into a side gig? It seems clear to me that Sac. could use a parkerizing service that's reasonable & actually works on black rifles.
