    Dented cases?

I recently got a Colt 6920 and have put 200 rounds through it. As I was collecting my brass I noticed that just about every single round had this mark on it in the attached photo. Is this normal from the round hitting the brass deflector? What's causing it? Can these cases be reloaded safely? Yesterday I shot the gun for the first time after installing the JP silent capture spring. On the expensive side but what a nice upgrade to not hear the spring twang. Cases were marked with the stock buffer and the JP spring.

    Thanks

    Normal from a gas gun.

It's from your brass deflector when the case is ejected.

You were using metal mags correct? That's from the magazine when the round is being chambered. Nothing to worry about

As CK stated it's normal, the marks will iron out when you shoot them.

          they might not...

you will just make more dents Its a viscous cycle.

Look at your brass deflector on your upper receiver. you might have a sharp edge that is causing this dent. Round it off or flatten it and you'll be fine.

On my 308 gas gun, I have a DPMS upper receiver and the brass deflector has a sharp edge where the brass bounces off of and creates this same type of dent. I rounded it off A LOT and it was fine. This is of course, assuming you're okay with exposed silver aluminum from the grounding off of this edge. Some people want pristine looking rifles I'm not one of those people....anymore. LOL.

No, Pmag and hex mags, no metal.

Yes, but it will shorten the life of the case stretching and weakening the fibers of the brass over time. One of the down sides of shooting and reloading for gas guns.

shows us a picture of your brass deflector. i bet there this an edge there

grind that sucker off and you will have less problems with these kinds of dents.

Some glue a piece of the fuzzy side Velcro to the shell defector where the brass is hitting to stop the cases from denting.

That brass is fine to reload. The dent will get ironed out when you fire it.

Magazines CANNOT make a dent like that. If you don't know why, don't make stuff up.

You gun is over-gassed. The case is bouncing off the deflector (case mouth or shoulder dent), and bouncing BACK into the ejection port edge. Notice the dent on the case body is slightly curved.

Check your mainspring to make sure it is of proper length. if so, increase your buffer weight.

An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Since I'm running a JP silent captured spring I guess I'll need to see about getting their spring kit that has different stiffness springs. If it's over gassed I'd want a stiffer spring correct?

Stiffer spring, more buffer mass, more carrier mass, cooler rounds, adjust gb if applicable etc etc.

Spring and or buffer are usually the easy way

Get a Spikes H2 heavy buffer. It should slow it down just enough to stop that from happening.

Brass was really never meant to be reused. We're just making something out of something that was not to be.
