Good Deal on FN Patrol Rifle in .308

CDNN is having a liquidation sale on FN Patrol Rifles. The standard model is listed at $599.00 with free shipping. I am in the Sacramento area and local gun shops here sell them for much more (around 1k). Is it just me or is this a really good deal at $599? I have been wanting a nice bolt action in .308 for some time but some other handgun/rifle always seems to get in the way. I had planned on getting a Remington 700 Police but the FN is now looking like a good option. Does anyone have an FN that would like to chime in with comments? Also, would you get it with an 18 or 20 inch barrel? Any input or advice is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    FN PBR

If it's the FN PBR Patrol Bolt Rifle that's a pretty good deal.

I have one and it's a pretty good rifle, especially if you want to get started in long range. The only possible negative is that the detachable mag only holds 4 rounds. So you have (5) rounds available if you chamber one up. Some competitions this might be troublesome. (Buy an extra mag if they have them)

FN PBR .308 20" barrel, Millett TRS-1 Scope, M118LR, 500 meters, in the afternoon, slight gusts 1-4mph. (12) Rounds downrange. I did have a GTG guy coaching me though.

I wouldn't mind picking one up for that price.

CDNN won't ship to us in CA. You have to go through a middle man FFL and then have it shipped to a CA FFL. You have to decide if it is worth your time/hassle to save a couple of hundred bucks at most after all is said and done. I would talk to the FFL and get him to order the gun for you (it is legal for them to do so since they are a dealer). I have heard that CDNN has refused to ship to FFLs acting as intermediate parties if they find out that the final buyer is in CA (this is legal and none of their business). Freakshow in MI runs a good operation. He's a forum member and sponsor.

And speaking of sellers who won't ship to Cali, has anyone seen any GunBroker listings which include the language, "... CA buyers to pay a 25.00 PITA fee, NO EXCEPTIONS. "

Take my advice and Skip the standard PBR and Get the PBR XP in 20" or 24" for $699 your getting a pre 64' crf vs. push feed on the standard pbr also a one piece 20moa scope base, and fluted medium heavy barrel....Overall worth the extra hundo plus you get the FN 30mm rings..I would recommend at least the 20" if not the 24"I picked up a 20" barreled action xp 4 months ago from CDNN and could not be happier..with a mcmillan or manners stock still comes in under $900..Great gun

I picked one of the barreled 24" fluted PBR XP actions a few months back when they were $399. I put it in an A-3 stock. Still looking for glass, but hope to have it soon.

Quite a few people picked these up. There are several places doing custom bottom metal for hinged plate or AICS magazines. I figure I have a little less in my rifle (with A-3 stock and Harris bipod) than if I had went out and purchased it stock with a Hogue overmolded stock.
